Job Summary

Supervises accounts payable operations related to facilities, real estate, and construction invoices, including complex supplier relationships and high-value transactions. Ensures accurate and timely processing of payments while adhering to established policies, procedures, and compliance standards. Provides guidance, training, and performance management to staff, resolves invoice discrepancies, and recommends process improvements to enhance operational efficiency. Collaborates with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to address payment issues and maintain compliance with financial and regulatory requirements. Oversees workflow, sets priorities, ensures team performance aligns with departmental goals, and supports strategic initiatives related to financial operations and reporting.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $87,900 - $187,700 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

Supply Chain Management (SCM) manages the processes that allow UCSF to source, procure, contract, move, pay for and store goods and services. By enabling academic, medical, and research excellence we directly impact UCSF's mission and "advance health worldwide". SCM's business lines provide essential support to all facets of the UCSF enterprise including research, campus, clinics, and health services. SCM is a collaborative leader influencing and impacting supply chain operations at all UC campus and Health locations.

The Accounts Payable unit of the Financial Operations Team is responsible for managing the campus-wide non-payroll disbursement processes and the travel programs. AP provides analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of match exceptions, pending approvals, with ensuring the accuracy, timeliness and proper accounting for disbursements including financial reporting and reconciliation, interpretation and application of policy, regulatory guidelines and requirements. It is also responsible for payments to vendors, students, employees and research subjects.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or Financial area and 5-7 years relevant experience and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Advanced knowledge of financial transactions and financial systems, as well as related policy, accounting and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in the advanced usage and functions of spreadsheet and database software
  • Strong interpersonal skills, service orientation, ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high volume environment, judgment and decision-making, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of human resources policies and procedures
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, and manage staff time and efforts accordingly
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources
  • Ability to interpret policies and make judgment calls in the application of policies
  • Oral and written communication, as well as influence skills, are required to lead the adoption of important process and technology improvements among customers and staff
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as they relate to relative to general ledger maintenance and reconciliation and fund accounting
  • Knowledge and experience working with Procure to Pay and ERP systems
