Responsibilities

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of adults requiring vascular access device (VAD) placement. Performs VAD insertion and maintenance using ultrasound and modified Seldinger Technique (MST) for placement. Communicates with physicians, co-workers and/or nursing director, as appropriate about the patient's clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Collaborates with other departments to ensure efficient patient quality care is provided. Responsible for adherence to regulations, standards and hospital or unit policies and procedures. Responsible for participation in Performance Improvement activities, unit meetings and in-services. Utilizes high degree of computer skills with data input and reporting mechanisms. Documentation, including data collection for quality measures of routine audits. Maintains and reorders supplies as needed daily. Coordinates scheduling and prioritizes all requests. Patient and family/significant other education; staff education and in services. Follow up patient VAD status, dressing changes and troubleshooting problems. Acts as a resource for other personnel as appropriate.



Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid RI State RN License.

2. Current BLS and ACLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.

3. Infusion Nurse Certification preferred.

4. Successful completion of Ultrasound guided PICC placement using Modified Seldinger Technique program.

5. Minimum of three years' nursing experience, with high level of competency in peripheral catheter placement.

6. PICC and other Vascular Access Device care required.
