ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for an Operations Manager to join our Federal team. Frequent travel of 50% or more, including overnight stays is required.

The Operations Manager is responsible for portfolio management of the activities of direct report Project Managers and Senior Project Managers to ensure all goals and objectives of the projects are accomplished. This individual is also responsible for providing monthly status reports to senior management. Effective installation and project portfolio management, applying technical knowledge expertise, project knowledge, people and communication skills, as well as management talent, in a proactive manner to ensure that our commitments are met on time, within budget, and at the quality expected by internal and external customer(s).

The essential functions of the position includes:



  • Oversee the project management of the labor, material, project modifications, estimate reviews, scope reviews, contractors and suppliers for proposals, and works with the engineering group to develop changes to ensure financial achievement goals
  • Forecast and report the revenue on assigned portfolio of projects.
  • Ensure that project goals are being met, on schedule, and on budget, during the delivery phase of the project
  • Assist Project Managers to ensure delivery of project(s) on time, and on budget with high customer satisfaction
  • Participate in evaluation and hiring of staffing needs for the construction group as required to meet business plan; arrange for recruitment or assignment of construction personnel; ensure smooth project transition between engineering team and project management team
  • Manage, direct and coordinate activities of Project Managers and consultants to ensure documentation and projects' progress are on schedule and within prescribed budgets


Your background includes:



  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least ten (10) years' related experience, in performance contracting (Project implementation phase)
  • Minimum of five (5) years' Construction Project Management experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years' management of direct reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret mechanical and engineering periodicals and schematics, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to compose and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, exercise discretion and independent judgment
  • Ability to perform complex business analysis based on knowledge and experience; negotiate, reason, plan, organize and control
