At UC Irvine's Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, and affiliated Brunson Center for Translational Vision Research our faculty of internationally recognized physicians, surgeons, and scientists provide highly specialized patient care, cutting edge world class vision science research, and advanced training to future ophthalmologists and scientists. Patients received access to leading-edge clinical trials as well as sight-saving treatments and therapies for virtually any eye disorder. Eye surgeons, stem cell researchers, geneticists, genome editing scientists, infectious disease specialists and engineers are working on technologies and treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, inherited retinal diseases, glaucoma, corneal diseases, and cataracts as well as a vaccine to prevent eye and genital herpes infections. These efforts have vaulted UC Irvine School of Medicine into the top echelons of U.S. institutions receiving National Institutes of Health grants for vision research. Your Role on the Team

This dynamic position oversees comprehensive marketing and events functions for the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. Responsibilities include promoting departmental programs and services to campus and community audiences; collaborating closely with UCI Health Marketing and UC Irvine School of Medicine Marketing to ensure alignment with strategic initiatives and branding standards; managing the development and production of multiple publications, including a biannual printed department newsletter and targeted e-newsletters; and overseeing multiple social media platforms to increase visibility and engagement.

The role also leads the planning and execution of complex events, including annual multi-day academic conferences, monthly lecture series, campus and community outreach programs, and provides oversight for additional events held within the facility. The ideal candidate is high-energy, highly organized, and adept at managing multiple complex projects simultaneously, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed. Strong communication, writing, and editing skills are essential.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of the campus and / or medical center's product lines and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, including its achievements, mission, goals, vision, objectives and infrastructure.
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, techniques and applications relevant to the field of promotion and advertising.
  • Advanced skills in developing, designing and implementing creative promotional and advertising strategies.
  • Advanced written, visual, interpersonal communication and political acumen skills.
  • Advanced analytical and research skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable campus and / or medical center policies and state and federal laws pertaining to marketing and advertising issues and concerns and other related policies or laws.
  • Skill in mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated experience in the successful planning, implementation, and reporting of marketing programs that achieve results in support of business objectives.
