THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is excited to announce an opening for a seasonal Park Maintenance Worker at the Fort Washington State Park Complex. This position is ideal for individuals seeking semi-skilled labor opportunities in a beautiful outdoor setting. The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of maintenance tasks across the complex, which encompasses both Evansburg State Park and Fort Washington State Park. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The primary responsibilities of this position encompass a range of essential tasks aimed at maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of park facilities. Daily duties include the opening and sanitization of restrooms, managing the opening and closing of park gates, emptying trash bins, collecting litter, and ensuring pavilions and cooking grills are kept clean. Additionally, the role involves mowing grass and trimming weeds to uphold the park's aesthetic appeal. Other responsibilities extend to painting, repairing various facilities, mowing wooded areas, and installing or repairing park signage. The employee utilizes a variety of equipment, such as rotary mowers, lawn tractors, front-end loaders, dump trucks, chain saws, and an assortment of hand and power tools for tasks related to carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and masonry.

In this role, the employee may work independently or as part of a team under the guidance of a semi-skilled maintenance repairman, maintenance supervisor, or park manager. Collaboration with volunteers and volunteer groups on diverse projects is also a key aspect of the job, with the potential for the employee to take on a leadership role in these initiatives. Specific examples of work performed include daily restroom maintenance, executing minor repairs on buildings and facilities using various trade tools, and managing park grounds with a range of mowing equipment, from hand-push mowers to riding tractors. The employee is also responsible for performing minor repairs and routine maintenance on park vehicles and equipment, assisting with litter collection and garbage disposal, and contributing to erosion control and repair projects. Additional tasks involve tree planting and maintenance, trail upkeep, and working alongside skilled tradespeople to support repair projects, all while operating tractors and other machinery as needed. The employee is expected to carry out any other maintenance-related duties as assigned by the maintenance supervisor or park manager.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately March 2027.
  • Work shifts/days vary, will work 5 days/37.5 hrs. per week to include weekends and holidays if needed

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Condition of Employment:
  • This position requires a Class C non-commercial drivers license.
