Emergency Room (Full-time, Varied Shift) Job Summary: The Manager-Emergency Services provides administrative, human resource, and financial management for designated area that provide direct and indirect patient care for an age-specific population with a defined scope of service. Collaborates with the Director, and Medical Director to manage day-to-day operations in a high-functioning, fast paced emergency department or Advanced Urgent Care (AUC) that treats a culturally diverse patient population presenting with a variety of illnesses and diseases in varying stages and injuries. Utilizes independent judgment and critical thinking skills to manage assigned department. Assesses and re-assesses department status at regular intervals and demonstrates flexibility and adeptly resets priorities based on patient volume. Thoroughly understands and directly oversees compliance with the requirements of emergency services governing agencies in addition to state and federal regulations, LLUMC-Murrieta policies, Medical Staff By-laws & Rules and Regulations. Fosters a culture that focuses on continuous performance improvement and understands and imparts department-specific quality metrics. Exhibits mission-focused thinking and participates in strategic planning process and aligns service goals and objectives with the mission, vision and values of the organization. Reviews plan and metrics with staff and implements action plans to meet established benchmarks. Rounds in department to assess status of department, provide accessibility, facilitate open communication with staff, detect and resolve issues at point of care, and address customer service issues with speed and sensitivity. Mentors and coaches staff in transforming culture, processes and clinical practice that meet expected nursing excellence standards and the demands of cutting-edge health care delivery to achieve and maintain Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Supports professional governance initiative. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Minimum three years nursing experience which has provided opportunity to demonstrate competencies in clinical nursing, leadership, administration, education, and staff development required. Knowledge and Skills: Substantial knowledge of pre-hospital and EMS, emergency nursing, state and federal healthcare regulations and accreditation, finance, performance improvement, quality, patient safety, evidenced-based clinical practice standards, medical staff structure, legal aspects of care, and nursing scope of practice required. Demonstrates professional competency and ability to develop and champion department-specific clinical outcome improvements in a multi-initiative organization. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of staff. Knowledge and application of adult learning principles, management techniques, and utilizes problem-solving methodologies in a proactive and creative manner. Able to read; write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position (Word, Excel, Power Point); operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, rules and laws; think critically; use sound judgment based on factual information and clinical knowledge; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position. Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) Licensure required. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications issued by the American Heart Association required.
