General Summary
The Director, Medical Affairs - Pain will provide strategic medical leadership and oversees the development and execution of medical strategies and plans for acute pain management in the U.S. region under the guidance of the Senior Medical Director. This role will focus on fostering scientific exchange, supporting evidence generation and scientific communications, and advancing disease education while ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards. Additionally, the Director will play a key role in supporting and developing team members, including Scientific and Medical Associate/Directors, to ensure professional growth and alignment with organizational goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement medical affairs strategies and lifecycle management plans for acute pain products, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.

  • Build and maintain relationships with clinical thought leaders (TL's), healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to gather insights and support scientific exchange in the field of acute pain.

  • Provide scientific input and expertise as a medical reviewer for global medical, commercial, regulatory, and reimbursement documents.

  • Contribute to the development of clinical value narratives through evidence generation and scientific communication.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate and industry guidelines for scientific and medical communication with external stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Medical Communications, HEOR/Market Access, Marketing, Clinical Development, Regulatory, and Corporate Communications, to align medical strategies with broader organizational goals.

  • Oversee the development and execution of medical education programs, advisory boards, and scientific symposia focused on acute pain management.

  • Monitor and analyze emerging scientific and clinical data related to acute pain to inform product strategies and address competitor threats.

  • Support and mentor team members, including Associate Scientific and Medical Directors, to enhance their professional development and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Provide guidance and expertise to team members in the development and execution of medical strategies and initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • PharmD, PhD, or Medical degree (MD or equivalent, e.g., DO) required.

  • MD candidates should have completed US residency with board certification and US clinical experience

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with at least 4 years in progressive Medical Affairs role.

  • Proven experience in acute pain management or related therapeutic areas highly preferred

  • Demonstrated expertise in lifecycle clinical trial strategy and execution, scientific communication, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Strong understanding of the U.S. healthcare system, regulatory environment, and market access landscape.

  • Experience in mentoring and supporting the professional development of team members, including Associate Scientific and Medical Directors.

Technical Skills Required

  • Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting clinical and scientific data, including pre-clinical and clinical research findings.

  • Advanced knowledge of biostatistics, clinical study design, and research methodologies.

  • Expertise in developing and reviewing medical and scientific content for various stakeholders.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills for engaging with internal and external audiences.

  • Familiarity with government and industry guidelines for medical and scientific exchange.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in developing and executing launch strategies for new products.

  • Advanced negotiation skills and the ability to resolve conflicts constructively.

  • Proven ability to synthesize insights from multiple data sources to inform strategic decisions.

Flex Designation
On-site or Hybrid (3 days in Boston office with either Monday or Friday as a required day in office)

Pay Range:

$216,000 - $324,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
