About the Role

The Assistant Publisher, Journals is responsible for providing valuable support to the Applied Sciences publishing team by building good working relationships with Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board Members, partners and societies, managing day-to-day administration, and contributing to or leading projects as required.

Reporting to the Executive Publisher, the Assistant Publisher must be able to analyze incoming communications, provide constructive feedback, and troubleshoot routine challenges that may arise. They must be adept at prioritizing, organizing and coordinating work assignments, and able to determine the most efficient way to accomplish each task. Other responsibilities include: maintaining team files, facilitating team meetings, corresponding with authors/editors, preparing journal proposals and contracts, managing journal articles/issues for timely acceptance and publication, and updating pipeline plans accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to achieving annual targets for journal submissions, publications, transfers, and target turnaround times.

  • Assist in data retrieval for creating custom reports related to journal management and development goals.

  • Handle non-strategic matters to maintainscholarlyjournals: preparenew agreements, update internal systems, arrange payments, and maintain other journal records.

  • Strive for maximum efficiency and productivity of editors, peer-reviewers and editorial board members, and help manage/streamline the peer-review process for assigned journals.

  • Monitor peer-review tools to regularly provide updated pipeline for high-volume journals.

  • Support the Executive Publisher, Senior Publishers, and Publishing Director for virtual meetings, in-person travel arrangements, and conference exhibits.

  • Prepare materials for team reports, conferences, and board meetings, including assistance with PowerPoint presentations.

  • Develop strong working relationships with colleagues across all departments to coordinate ongoing production, marketing, special sales, conferences, and other internal department deadlines.

  • Support other team members with ad-hoc tasks and requests as needed.

Experience, Skills & Quialifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 6 months of corporate environment experience

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word and PowerPoint; database and other software to track projects across a portfolio of journals

  • 1-2 years' experience in either science publishing or journal publishing is preferred

  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices

  • Laser focused attention to detail; exhibiting strong organizational and analytical skills is essential

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Flexibility and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment

  • Ability to work in a hybrid-in office environment

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level, and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
