LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION, BLEDSOE COUNTY CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX, BLEDSOE COUNTY

A Motor Vehicle Records screening will be conducted prior to employment. This position requires a pre-employment drug screen.

This classification has a salary range based on the highest level of completed education and years of experience.

This position requires a criminal background check. Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Possession of a master's degree in education, education administration or other related acceptable field from an accredited college or university;

OR

Possession of a valid professional teaching certificate from the Tennessee Department of Education with appropriate administrator endorsements.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Certification or eligible for certification as an administrator with the State of Tennessee.

Overview

Responsible for the leadership, administration, and supervision of academic education programs within a correctional facility. Oversees curriculum planning, staff management, and compliance with TDOC policies and state education standards. Directs daily school operations including class scheduling, diploma programs, instructional oversight, budget planning, and staff evaluation. Ensures high-quality instruction aligned to state standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth. This role plays a vital part in supporting rehabilitation through education and operates with a high degree of independence under general administrative supervision.

Responsibilities

  1. Instructional Leadership & Program Oversight: Plans, implements, and supervises academic, vocational, special education, and library programs aligned with state standards to meet the diverse needs of incarcerated learners. Designs new educational initiatives and training programs in response to evolving institutional priorities, workforce needs, and reentry-focused rehabilitation goals.
  2. Staff Supervision & Professional Development: Selects, trains, evaluates, and supports teachers and staff; identifies professional development needs, ensures performance standards are met, and maintains compliance with TDOC policies and employment regulations.
  3. Policy, Compliance & Safety Enforcement: Ensures institutional, departmental, and educational policies are implemented and followed, including student discipline, safety protocols, and special education compliance.
  4. Curriculum & Instructional Design: Develops, evaluates, and revises instructional programs; supports effective classroom instruction and curriculum alignment to Tennessee Department of Education standards and TDOC mission.
  5. Scheduling & Academic Operations: Oversees class schedules, graduation ceremonies, extracurricular programs, and assessments; ensures timely reporting and documentation.
  6. Budget & Resource Management: Assists in preparation and oversight of the school budget, reviews procurement needs, manages contracts, and ensures appropriate use of instructional resources and supplies.
  7. Data & Records Management: Supervises the collection and maintenance of student data, attendance, transcripts, and assessment results; composes reports and ensures compliance with documentation standards and audit requirements.
  8. Continuous Improvement & Accountability: Fosters a culture of collaboration, shared accountability, and professional growth; leads efforts to evaluate and improve educational outcomes and staff performance.
