The basic function of the Director position is to perform the following tasks across a single organizations: lead, guide, and mentor a group of multi-disciplined engineering professionals; develop new and maintain existing client relationships; work closely with the Senior Leadership to ensure that NV5 corporate goals and guidelines are maintained. A director maybe focused on either technical or business development aspects.



Responsibilities

Office Management and Team Leadership:

    Manages both technical and non-technical staff to ensure that their performance meets office and firm-wide goals and objectives.
  • Ensures that NV5 policies and procedures are fairly and consistently followed.
  • Trains staff to develop within their career/profession and to further the goals of the firm.

Client Relationship Management and Marketing:

  • Be actively involved in client marketing activities, cross-selling NV5 services available beyond scope requirements for future.
  • Develop and manage client relationships within the markets sector or sectors associated with your group
  • Maintain NV5 industry reputation by always conducting business in a courteous and professional manner
  • Be closely involved in the proposal process. Tasks include delivering presentations, negotiating fees to perform projects of a certain scope, reviewing and approving written proposal documents obtaining authorized signatures on contracts.

Project Team Management:

  • Manage and direct employees assigned to group Help employees to grow and develop in their disciplines, mentoring when appropriate.

Business Planning and Accounting:

  • Develops short term as well as long term business development strategies for assigned market sector.
  • Constantly review work in progress and future work to ensure that employees assigned to group remain busy and profitable.
  • Communicates relevant information promptly to Principal(s).
  • Must be at least a member and on a committee of (1) trade specific organization (ASHRAE, ASPE, AIA, etc).
  • Must be ready to deliver at least (1) existing prepared AIA credit presentation white paper or article per year.


Qualifications

Education/Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer.
  • Graduate from an engineering curriculum accredited by the A.E.T, non-accredited engineering curriculum, related engineering science, or possess a B.S. degree in Engineering.
  • 10-15 years' experience in consulting engineering having designed and managed projects independently including development of plans and specifications.
  • Must have thorough understanding of the principles of design as well as a general understanding of the principles of all the engineering disciplines.
  • Proven track record of generating business in the MEP industry and established contacts with architects and business in the area.
  • Must keep current through continuing education.
  • Must have strong leadership, problem-solving, and excellent communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, and project management software applications.

Physical Requirements:

  • This is a full-time position (40 hours per week on Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm), with the ability to work on-call and extended hours (including after hours, holidays and weekends).
  • The job is performed primarily in an indoor office environment with occasional driving to commercial and institutional job site locations and outdoor activities at the site (including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and buildings).
  • Sitting for excessive periods of time and, depending upon the assigned project, there may be occasional bending, crawling, carrying a ladder, climbing, and walking.
  • The employee must be able to perform, in a safe manner at all times, the following essential functions and requirements:

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Recommended: 0-3 years professional experience.
  • Bachelor's degree within an engineering discipline.
  • Must be able to travel to work-sites as needed or required.

The employee frequently sits or stands in the same location with opportunity to move about; occasionally walks substantial distances at job site locations; regularly thinks, concentrates, analyzes, interprets, interacts with others, and communicates orally and in writing; regularly uses a computer (keyboard and mouse); regularly reads, sees, hears, and speaks; frequently uses hands to write, type, finger, handle, or feel; occasionally reaches with hands and arms; occasionally bends, stoops, and lifts or moves up to 30 pounds (and greater weights infrequently); occasionally climbs ladders and stairs.
