This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

We are seeking an experienced Manager of Manufacturing Engineering to lead a team dedicated to advancing human spaceflight through innovative manufacturing solutions.In this role, you will manage the manufacturing engineering team that enables the build, assembly, and integration of the Lunar Transporter spaceflight vehicle and its subsystems.

You will oversee the development and implementation of manufacturing processes, including design for manufacturability, work instruction creation, tooling procurement support, process planning, and configuration of efficient work cells. You will work collaboratively withinIntegrated Product Teams (IPTs), partnering closely with design, quality, tooling, facilities, logistics, operations, and project management functions to deliver high-quality hardware onambitious schedules while maintaining a strong focus on safety and mission assurance.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical acumen, skilled in driving continuous improvement in a dynamic environment,and committed to developing people, fostering an inclusive culture, and modeling ownership and sound judgment under pressure.

Position Specific Details:

  • Shift: A | Mon-Fri (6am-2:30pm)

  • Location: Space Coast, FL

  • Relocation: Available

  • Potential travel up to 10% of the time for training and other support activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of manufacturing engineers responsible for production of the Lunar Transporter spaceflight vehicle and its subsystems, building a flexible, top-talent organization that maintains standard work, repeatability, and operational excellence.

  • Own manufacturing engineering deliverables across the lifecycle, including development of fabrication specifications, acceptance and test plans, maintenance plans, Statements of Work, and the identification and development of critical manufacturing processes and steps for vehicle assembly and integration.

  • Drive design and process development within Lunar IPTs and Build & Flow, supporting requirements generation and Interface Control Models (ICMs), and leading design trades that balance cost, schedule, producibility, reliability, and operational needs.

  • Support Operations Leadership by providing effective, data-driven decision-making on complex scenarios, using metrics and clear trade studies to enable sound choices in a high-velocity aerospace production environment.

  • Champion a strong safety culture and world-class mission assurance in all manufacturing processes, ensuring rigorous adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

  • Drive continuous improvement using lean principles, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions, and collaborate closely with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and other partner teams to resolve issues, remove roadblocks, and ensure on-time delivery of flight hardware.

Team Focus & Domain Expertise

Lunar Operations plays a crucial role in the successful deployment and operation of the Lunar vehicle. As a key component of our mission, Lunar Ops ensures that the Lunar vehicle is not only developed and assembled to the highest standards but also thoroughly tested and prepared for its lunar journey. The team collaborates closely with stakeholders across engineering, quality assurance, EHS, operations, and logistics to ensure the Lunar Transporter meets all mission requirements and performs reliably in the challenging lunar environment. Their expertise and dedication are instrumental in making the Lunar Transporter a pioneering success and a cornerstone for future lunar exploration initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field from an accredited university.

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering, including 3+ years creating work instructions.

  • Demonstrated commitment to world-class mission assurance, quality, and attention to detail, consistently modeling safety, integrity, and ownership.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • Flexibility to change shifts as needed and to work extended hours when required to support production schedules.

  • Ability to work onsite daily in a fast-paced, hands-on production environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field, with professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Project Management Professional (PMP). Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) is a plus.

  • 2+ years of experience directly leading engineers and/or technical teams through new product development into a production environment, with demonstrated leadership and relationship-building skills that drive performance and results across cross-functional teams.

  • Proven technical breadth across multiple hardware domains, including system assembly, bonding/adhesive and fastener application, machining and composite fabrication, and integration of electrical and mechanical components, spanning multiple product lifecycle stages (New Product Introduction (NPI), rate production, and product transition) for spacecraft, launch vehicles, or high-performance aircraft.

  • Hands-on experience in aerospace assembly, integration, and troubleshooting, with a strong foundation in fabrication processes (machining, welding, composites, mechanical/electrical assembly) and demonstrated expertise in designing, building, and commissioning tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and test.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing fundamentals, including GD&T, DFM/DFA, tolerance stack-ups, and manufacturing process development. Familiarity with aerospace quality and safety standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001. Experience with manufacturing automation, digital work instructions, and advanced metrology (CMM, laser scanning).

  • Experience working within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), including supporting requirements generation and establishing/maintaining Interface Control Models (ICMs). Proficiency with PLM/MRP systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill), BOM management, and product structure reconciliation. Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, Visio, Jira, and Confluence. Strong organizational, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills for collaborating with teams, customers, and suppliers across locations.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $140,316.00 - $196,442.40
