Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Health Educator II (Clinical Trials) within Cancer Health Equity & Engagement at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
The Health Educator II will work under the direction of the Program Director of Outreach and Engagement. This position promotes cancer health equity research integration at the Rutgers Cancer Institute as part of the Cancer Health Equity Center of Excellence (CHECoE). The Health Educator II will also work with community outreach and engagement team members, community clinical practice teams, community organizations, and Rutgers Cancer Institute research program leaders and liaisons to facilitate the achievement of our goals of increasing participation of underserved and underrepresented communities in cancer clinical trials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Identifies and participates in evidence-based cancer-related knowledge brokering through the creation of dissemination pathways within communities and networks, specifically on research and cancer clinical trials.
  • Provides guidance to enhance cancer clinical trials participation through education and liaison actions within the RWJBH Health System.
  • Educates communities and providers in better understanding research and clinical trials, and available materials and resources by working closely with the CHECoE Community Education and Engagement team and Community Navigation team.
  • Responds to inquiries from community clinical practice teams and community organizations about research and clinical trials services and refers to the appropriate resource.
  • Assists in identifying, developing, and implementing initiatives that ensure Rutgers Cancer Institute research is addressing catchment area priorities and health equity and is responsive to community-identified needs.
  • Works in collaboration with the Community Outreach and Education team, Community Scientists, and Community Cancer Action Board (CCAB) members, and Impact Councils to develop educational and outreach materials on clinical trials, and develop and coordinate relevant in-reach and outreach efforts and activities (e.g., community scientist program opportunities and matching with researchers).
  • Attends and participates in key meetings and committees at Rutgers Cancer Institute for research integration efforts (e.g., Catchment Area & COE Research Programs Integration Meeting, Disease Specific Working Groups (DSGs), Commission on Cancer Survivorship Committee, Patient Education Committee) and other meetings (e.g., RWJBH/Rutgers Cancer Institute systemwide inter-professional oncology operations collaborative).
  • Assists in promoting and recommending bidirectional, efficacious community engagement strategies in cancer research activities, ensuring research can be optimally translated to communities.
  • Interfaces with the Rutgers Cancer Institute's Office of Human Research Services (OHRS) on clinical trials enrollment efforts.
  • Assists with the preparation of activity reports and materials for senior leadership.
  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance, Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Understands, demonstrates, and models the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey core values.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and Rutgers's compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Interest policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, or a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in public health, outreach, research environment or similar experience; or a Master's Degree plus one (1) year of experience in outreach, public health, research environment or similar experience.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of word processing, presentation, database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, flexible, and resourceful.
  • Must be able to accomplish tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Effective oral and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Health Education experience preferred.
  • Cancer education in ethnic minorities a plus.
  • Experience with or demonstrated willingness to learn research, web-based, and medical programs preferred (OnCore, EPIC, Salesforce, Qualtrics, etc.).
  • Strong writing and communication skills, manuscript and grant writing coordination experience preferred.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, etc.)
