High Level on the Software & AI Team:

The Software and AI Category Management Team at San Diego Gas & Electric Company ("SDG&E"), part of the Technology Portfolio in Supply Management, provides critical oversight and management over all software and AI vendors and agreements across SDG&E and its affiliates, including Sempra (parent company) and Southern California Gas Company ("SoCalGas"). The team is responsible for managing all software and AI-related purchases, negotiating commercial deals, reviewing and redlining agreements, and refining scopes and statements of work for related professional services, to maximize value for the organization.


Primary Purpose: Groups and classifies procurement spend into categories to optimize purchasing strategies, increase efficiency, and reduce risks. Analyzes market trends and builds strategic supplier relationships to extract long-term value. Streamlines procurement by eliminating redundancies, consolidating efforts, and standardizing policies across the organization. Utilizes data insights to drive cost savings, improve supply chain sustainability, and enhance compliance, ensuring better service quality and brand reputation. Developing higher-level knowledge and skills. Solves a range of straightforward problems using existing solutions. Receives general supervision and direction. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Develops and deliver presentations that support key meetings, strategic planning, and decision-making efforts.
  • Conducts research on market trends and emerging opportunities to identify areas for innovation and improved efficiency.
  • Maintains accurate and organized documentation, ensuring all processes and records meet internal standards and requirements.
  • Coordinates the resolution of issues between internal teams and external partners, including updates to agreements and working arrangements.
  • Promotes and monitors adherence to established practices and guidelines across projects and partnerships.
  • Analyzes data and purchasing patterns to provide insights that support informed planning and resource allocation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Category Management - The process of bundling like products into a singular category, or business unit, and then addressing procurement, merchandising, sales, and other retail efforts on the category as a whole.
  • Sourcing Strategy - Builds a reliable and competitive supplier base, defines pricing strategies and procurement requirements and ensures timely delivery of goods and services to meet business objectives.
  • Contract Management - Streamlining the creation, execution, storage or renewal of contracts, with a focus on compliance, often via software or other automated means.
  • Supplier Management - Identifies, acquires, and manages resources and suppliers that are essential to the operations of an organization.
  • Commercial Negotiation - The planning, reviewing, analysis and other activities that a buyer and seller conduct to reach an agreement.
  • Cost Analysis - A process businesses use to analyze decisions, whereby a business sums the benefits of a situation or action and then subtracts the costs associated with taking that action.
  • Supply Chain Management - Supply chain management is the management of the flow of goods and services and includes all processes that transform raw materials into final products.
  • Risk Management - Identifies, evaluates and manages risks by developing and implementing risk management strategies, frameworks, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Market Analysis - Analyzing competing products, services, and organizations in the external business environment.
  • Relationship Management - Activities undertaken to improve business relationships.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Deep knowledge of software and AI technologies, licensing models, and emerging industry trends
  • Demonstrated ability to independently redline and negotiate all aspects of complex software and AI contracts without reliance on counsel
  • Proven experience negotiating software and AI-related professional service Statements of Work (SOW) and scopes
  • Expertise in vendor management, including conflict resolution, discount negotiation, and strategic relationship building
  • Strong project management skills with experience in cross-functional coordination and accelerated timeline delivery
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) and Project Management Professional (PMP)
