Summary:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This role supports 24/7 patient admissions and discharges and contributes to safe, efficient unit operations.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent required, plus one of the following:

  • Completion of certified Nurse Assistant program or hold an active CNA.

  • Completion of Medical Assistant program.

  • Completion of first clinical semester in accredited nursing program with continued enrollment in nursing program.

  • Completion and current certification of Emergency Medical Technician Program.

  • Completion of Patient Care Technician training program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Obtain routine vital signs and promptly report abnormal values to the RN as necessary.

  • Perform daily weights and accurate height and weight measurements.

  • Conduct blood glucose monitoring per protocol.

  • Remove peripheral IVs as ordered and within scope of practice.

  • Accurately measure, record, and document intake and output in a timely manner.

  • Assist with patient admissions and discharges, including room setup and breakdown.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment

  • Provide basic patient care and assist with activities of daily living as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with the nursing team and interdisciplinary staff.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Cross-train to the Unit Secretary role, supporting clerical and communication functions

  • Float to other areas of the hospital as needed to meet operational demands

  • Adhere to hospital policies, safety standards, and infection prevention practices

Certification/Licensure:

  • Current BLS
