THE POSITION

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Digital Forensic Examiner 2 to join our team in the Video Analysis Unit. In this role, you will assist with the analysis of multimedia evidence in investigations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will perform examinations and analysis on analogical, digital video, audio, and multimedia evidence using scientific forensic equipment. You will also perform digital forensic analysis of video related evidence seized by law enforcement officers. Your work will involve advanced analysis of casework that includes examining various video operating and file system environments and network communications found in diverse technology, as well as recovering deleted, encrypted, and damaged file information. Some of your duties will include presenting evidence in a readable format by preparing written reports, preserving evidence and document chain of custody, and assisting investigators with video and computer crime related investigations. Additionally, you will provide expert testimony at court proceedings.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will travel to field sites and to testify in court, occasionally overnight.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Organization or Location Restrictions:

  • This posting is restricted to Pennsylvania State Police employees only.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Digital Forensic Examiner 1 (commonwealth title); or
  • One year of professional work experience in the technical analysis of digital evidence and a bachelor's degree in digital forensics, cyber forensics, forensic science, computer science, or any information technology field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional work experience in the technical analysis of digital evidence.

Special Requirements:

  • All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.

Other Requirements:

  • If you do not already hold the Forensic Video Technician Certification, you must obtain it within 18 months of hire.
  • You will need to obtain level 1 and 2 certification though the Law Enforcement and Emergency Certification Video Association (LEVA).

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.

  • Seniority/Promotion Unit: 019: Pennsylvania State Police Headquarters including Academy and Troops H (all stations) and T (Highspire and Newville)

Permanent full-time Digital Forensic Examiner 2s can be considered for lateral transfer.
