Job Summary

Assists the Principal Investigator (PI) in maintaining the laboratory facilities and equipment at the Engineering Center and in the Animal Care Facility. Assists in general laboratory administration, coordinating animal studies, maintain the laboratory budget and place order for research supplies, and ensures that all lab personnel have completed the requisite safety training and follow proper research procedures.

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, under the direction of the PI, including overseeing the use of laboratory funds, supplying inventory and purchasing, and research activities within the laboratory.
  • Assists designated faculty in research projects, including operation of equipment such as equipment usage schedules (e.g., Vevo imaging time, telemetry prep) and set up of essential lab equipment (centrifuges, microscopes, telemetry systems, etc.)
  • Plans and supervise instrumentations related to research and teaching activities.
  • Coordinates and supervises daily animal care, including feeding, special diet preparation, and housing ensuring compliance with IACUC protocols and maintaining animal records.
  • Conducts training classes for students on experimental testing, instrumentation and collection of test data or teaching activities.
  • Serves as the University's credit card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University's credit card policies and procedures.
  • Interprets and implements policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Performs risk management, safety protocols, compliance with EH&S requirements, user safety training. Serves as the primary liaison with regulatory and administrative offices, coordinating IACUC, IRB, EH&S, and grant compliance activities on behalf of the PI and lab members.
  • Oversees and executes enforcement of lab safety protocols, ensuring proper documents for chemical use.
  • Develops and implements standard operating procedures for the laboratory.
  • Maintains organized records of invoices, receipts, and request vender quotes.
  • Organizes and oversees the setup of lab material/equipment/lab instruments/supplies needed for experiments.
  • Consolidates and streamlines laboratory purchases, including both credit card and purchase orders, while monitoring and reconciling grant budgets and expenses to ensure fiscal accountability.
  • Trains and mentors undergraduate and graduate personnel, oversees their research projects, and provides guidance on experimental design, data collection, and compliance.
  • Oversees the use and maintenance of core laboratory equipment, ensuring functionality, scheduling, and accurate recharge billing for users.
  • Leads strategic planning for laboratory growth, including major equipment acquisition, allocation of space and resources, and ensuring compliance with institutional and federal regulations.
  • Contributes to grant development by preparing technical sections, budget justifications, and data figures, supporting successful funding applications.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.


Departmental Requirements
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory setting


Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience managing a budget.
  • Previous experience working in a wet lab and/or with animals in a research environment.
