The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Research Assistant.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated research personnel to join our NIH-funded laboratory, located within the Health Science Center of WVU in Morgantown, WV. Our research focuses on investigating the functions of proteins in visual mechanisms. Our lab uses a combination of imaging, and animal models to pursue these questions. The selected candidate will support and perform independent research, present at our weekly group meetings and national conferences, and receive dedicated mentorship.

The selected candidate will work with the Principal Investigator (PI) to understand the importance of cilia and heat shock protein 90 in vision. You will help the team in generating data for publication. You will also actively participate in the ongoing research including regular presentation at our weekly group meetings.

What You'll Do

  • Microscopy imaging (Confocal, Super-resolution microscopy)
  • Analyzing microscopy imaging data
  • Generating figures for manuscripts
  • Willing to assist other lab members
  • Pay Grade: 15
  • Length of Assignment: Approximately 6 months
  • Work Hours: 37.5 Hours per week
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in life sciences;
  • A minimum of 0-6 months in the following:

    • Retina, specifically photoreceptor biology and cilia.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of laboratory environment and appropriate procedures
  • Knowledge in general cell biology and molecular techniques
  • Ability to prepare reagents
  • Ability to use Microsoft office and other related lab software/applications
  • Skilled at using general laboratory equipment
  • Good organization skills and self-motivation
  • Willingness and ability to learn new protocols/procedures in a rapid manner
  • Ability to get along with others in a group setting
