Senior Software Engineer, Social

Location: San Diego, CA (Rancho Bernardo)

The Senior Software Engineer will create and build full stack solutions for PlayStation features on the PS5, mobile, and other supported platforms, including related network services. They will contribute deep technical expertise, hands-on experience, and development work across the full software stack. The ideal candidate has a solid object-oriented development background and enthusiasm for full stack and web technologies on both front-end and back-end.


Role Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop complex projects across multiple teams and fields to deliver new and innovative features.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality front-end applications using React Native, ensuring they are production-ready and meet performance standards.
  • Build and optimize backend services for maximum speed and scalability while ensuring responsiveness hosting APIs to support new and existing features.
  • Communicate proactively and independently with all relevant collaborators on plans, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Develop and roll out versatile UI modules for different platforms, prioritizing scalability and simple upkeep, and applying architectural structures such as MVC, MVVM, and MVP.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Product Managers, and Designers to understand feature requirements, define technical requirements, and develop new features.
  • Take ownership of technology and common shareable features across large projects or several smaller projects.
  • Produce excellent, thorough design, architecture, and development documentation.
  • Focus on quality and strive to improve processes, propose guidelines, and drive their usage within the teams.
  • Partner with QA engineers to ensure test coverage and verify test plans that help deliver high-quality features.
  • Write unit tests and component tests for features with key characteristics of stability and maintainability, preventing regressions in the product code.
  • Efficiently debug issues raised by internal and external users and work with the team to provide resolutions to these issues.
  • Support and mentor other team members, providing technical leadership by reviewing pull requests, design plans, and participating in architectural discussions.
  • Communicate on development strategy, technical subjects related to software development frameworks, and collaborate effectively with globally distributed teams to achieve business goals.
  • Comprehend, converse about, and refine specifications to boost the overall experience for players and game studio partners.


Required Qualifications

  • Must relocate to the San Diego area.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science plus 5 years of experience or equivalent knowledge.
  • 5+ years of solid programming experience in end-to-end development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, React Native, Java core libraries, and web server applications.
  • Experience with mobile development in iOS (Objective-C/Swift, Xcode) or Android (Java/Kotlin, Android Studio) front-end development.
  • Proficient with Python, Go, scripting, and functional languages.
  • Practical experience with contemporary Java frameworks like Spring Boot or equivalent technologies to develop reliable microservices architectures.
  • Expert-level knowledge of object-oriented design and design patterns, and passionate about writing high-quality and well-architected code.
  • Experience in building high-performance and cloud-based scalable web services.
  • Collaborated on cloud-deployed services hosting APIs and backend processes talking to data-storage and caching layers, event buses, and other services.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering procedures - collecting and analyzing requirements, creating secure and scalable code with unit tests, joining code reviews and documentation; experienced in open-source technology stack.
  • Ability to oversee periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role's base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

$177,300 $265,900 USD
