We are seeking a hands-on Senior Project Engineer (Technical Lead) to serve as the technical authority and execution lead for complex programs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring we Deploy Faster, Operate with Confidence, and Design with Purpose across all technical and program execution activities. The ideal candidate will be a proactive technical leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment while guiding high-performing engineering teams and delivering resilient, mission-ready systems in support of mission-critical programs.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as the Technical Lead for assigned programs, providing end-to-end engineering oversight from requirements through deployment and sustainment.
- Translate mission needs and operational requirements into clear, executable technical solutions.
- Lead system architecture, design reviews, trade studies, and technical decision-making.
- Ensure designs are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with DoD standards and best practices.
- Partner with Program Managers to balance scope, schedule, cost, and technical performance.
- Develop and manage technical baselines, schedules, and risk mitigation plans.
- Identify and resolve technical issues early to deploy faster without sacrificing quality.
- Support proposal development, technical volumes, and basis of estimates as needed.
- Drive streamlined engineering processes and modern development practices (e.g., Agile, DevSecOps, Model-Based Systems Engineering).
- Champion rapid prototyping, iterative development, and early integration/testing.
- Lead verification, validation, and acceptance activities to ensure mission readiness.
- Maintain configuration control and technical rigor to support long-term sustainment.
- Mentor engineers and establish technical standards that promote consistency and trust.
- Design solutions that are mission-focused, user-centered, and operationally relevant.
- Ensure engineering decisions are traceable to warfighter needs and mission outcomes.
- Balance innovation with practicality, emphasizing usability, maintainability, and lifecycle cost.
- Act as the primary technical interface with the government customers, subcontractors, and internal leadership.
- Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, or related discipline). Master's degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred, but not required.
- 8-12+ years of progressive engineering experience supporting DoD or federal programs.
- Proven experience serving as a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer, or Chief Engineer.
- Experience working with classified programs and secure environments.
- Strong understanding of DoD acquisition processes, systems engineering, and technical reviews.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g. MIL-STD, ISO 9001, AS9001) and best practices for system development and integration.
- Prior experience interfacing directly with government engineering authorities.
- Must be able to qualify and maintain a Top-Secret Security Clearance.
