Role Overview

As a Diesel Mechanic at Bernhardt, you will play a vital role in keeping our operations running smoothly by:

  • Maintaining and repairing diesel engines to ensure trucks, heavy equipment, and generators operate safely and efficiently.
  • Conducting diagnostic tests using advanced tools and software to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Performing routine inspections of fluid levels, brakes, transmissions, and other critical systems to prevent breakdowns.
  • Executing preventive maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups to extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshooting complex problems and applying technical expertise to resolve unexpected failures quickly.
  • Collaborating with operations teams to communicate repair needs and minimize downtime.
  • Maintaining accurate service records for compliance and tracking.
  • Ensuring safety standards by following OSHA and company guidelines.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years' experience repairing both automatic and standard transmissions
  • Certified Diesel Mechanic
  • Certification in brake repair
  • ASE certification in air conditioning
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, including:

    • Davey (Paccar engines)
    • Insight (Cummins engines)
    • CAT diagnostic systems
    • ABS brake diagnostic tools for trucks and trailers
    • Paccar chassis diagnostic systems for cab air conditioning and cruise controls




Preferred Qualifications

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Trailer certification


Physical Requirements

To perform the duties of this role, you must be able to:

  • Lift and carry parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Bend, stoop, and crouch to access engines and confined spaces
  • Use hands and fingers skillfully to operate tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Work in shop environments with noise, grease, fumes, and varying temperatures
  • Maintain visual and auditory acuity to detect issues and read gauges
  • Climb and balance safely on vehicles, ladders, or elevated platforms
