Position Summary

The Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM) and Office of Vice President for Research (OVPR) at the University of New Mexico seek a highly motivated, dynamic, detailed-oriented, organized, and experienced individual to join as a Systems/Network Analyst 3 to provide daily IT support to its faculty, staff, postdocs, students and outside researchers. This position will be a matrixed position and will report 90% to CHTM and 10% to the OVPR for the first 24 months. At the end of these 24 months, upon evaluation of CHTM's IT needs, the reporting structure and the expected allocation of the position's time and effort may vary. The total FTE will remain unchanged. This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, update, backup and repair of hundreds of computers and peripherals in a complex and diverse research environment. Systems include servers (Linux, BSD, and Windows), desktops and workstations (Windows, Linux and Mac), laptops (Windows and Mac), and network printers. The position oversees various software licenses for the Center's systems, and is also responsible for configuring and maintaining the Center's Linux-based tool management system and associated hardware. The position will also serve as the technical expert on IT matters within the Center, providing guidance and direction to faculty, staff, postdocs, and students, and resolving unusual and complex hardware and software problems. The position requires regular work in a laboratory environment where hazardous chemicals and/or hazardous equipment may be in use. Upon employment, CHTM will provide training on how to avoid specific hazards.

The selected individual will also work with the OVPR Research IT team on projects that cross between CHTM and the OVPR. Furthermore, the position will interface with IT staff in OVPR Research IT and/or UNM/IT and IT in other University units to ensure the 'Center's systems conform to UNM requirements in configuration and operation. The job may include supervision of lower-level IT staff and/or student employees.

The position requires an individual who is self-motivated, comfortable working independently, able to identify and fulfill requirements, and to efficiently complete tasks with little to no supervision.
