We are seeking a hands-on Director of Engineering to provide leadership for all Engineering activities across the organization and support operations across our facilities. This position plays a critical role in ensuring we Deploy Faster, Operate with Confidence, and Design with Purpose across all engineering efforts. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment while maintaining uncompromising standards of quality, safety, and technical excellence in support of mission-critical defense programs.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Engineering organization, ensuring designs are intentional, manufacturable, scalable, and aligned with program, customer, and regulatory requirements
  • Own all engineering activities related to the design, development, integration, verification, qualification, and long-term sustainment of mission-critical systems, ensuring performance, safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance are consistently achieved
  • Establish and enforce engineering and test standards, processes, and best practices to ensure consistent execution and predictable outcomes
  • Drive efficient engineering execution to support rapid development cycles, test readiness, and smooth transitions to production
  • Identify and remove organizational, technical, and process barriers that delay delivery, introduce risk, or create rework
  • Oversee engineering schedules, staffing plans, budgets, and workload balancing across multiple programs and priorities
  • Partner with Program Management to support new product development, contract execution, and ongoing production support to meet aggressive cost, schedule, and performance objectives
  • Ensure all engineering and test activities meet applicable quality, safety, regulatory, and customer requirements, including aerospace and defense standards
  • Lead technical risk identification, mitigation planning, and issue resolution across engineering and test functions
  • Support audits, certifications, customer reviews, and regulatory inspections with confidence, accuracy, and data-driven documentation
  • Define clear performance expectations, accountability, and success metrics for engineering and test leadership and staff
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence across teams
  • Champion the company's core values through visible leadership behaviors, decision-making, and accountability
  • Serve as a senior technical leader and trusted advisor to executive leadership on engineering strategy, risk, and investment decisions
  • Communicate complex technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering workflows, tools, systems, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Promote innovation while maintaining disciplined execution, configuration control, and risk management appropriate for mission-critical systems
  • Track and report on key engineering performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure goals are being met across the engineering and test teams.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field (Master's degree preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including leadership of managers and multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience overseeing both engineering design and test/validation organizations
  • Strong understanding of full product development lifecycles, from concept through sustainment
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in fast-paced, regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of mission-critical systems architecture, integration, and lifecycle management for industries such as defense, aerospace, intelligence, or national security.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g. MIL-STD, ISO 9001, AS9001) and best practices for system development and integration.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience.
  • Must be able to qualify for at least a Top-Secret Security Clearance.
