Summary

The Department of Biology at Saint Xavier University is pleased to invite applications for a sixth month potentially renewable lecturer position to develop and teach anatomy and physiology curricula primarily for our biology and nursing majors in addition to other students that we serve. We are especially interested in individuals with demonstrable teaching experience in innovative, evidence-based teaching practices. We seek someone who will create an inclusive learning environment, communicate the significance of biology, and engage with communities beyond academia. Teaching responsibilities may include but are not limited to Human Anatomy and Physiology (BIOL 202/203) and Human and Comparative Anatomy and Physiology (BIOL 220/320). Additional courses would include related specializations that also include endocrinology, neuroscience and embryology.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the teaching mission Saint Xavier University and a background or professional promise in teaching laboratory and lecture components of introductory biology courses for biology majors and nonbiology majors, botany, and human physiology labs.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

* Collaboration with related lecture course and lab instructors and the coordinator for Biology is expected.

* Candidates are also expected to hold office hours outside of class sessions.

* The main teaching responsibility is likely to involve courses in both the Human and Human/Comparative anatomy and physiology sequences, BIOL202/BIOL203, and/or BIOL220/BIOL320, in addition to the teaching and/or coordination of related lab sections; Additional courses in related specializations can be taught as the schedule permits.

* The teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester. The average class size is 40 students, with labs of 20.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Biology or an equivalent required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Biology preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates preferred
