Assistant Construction Project Manager

WHAT WILL YOU DO

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) will support Project Managers in planning, executing, and successfully completing assigned construction projects. This role is critical in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget, while maintaining the high standards of Thompson Machinery and Caterpillar. The APM will be involved in all phases of project management, including pre-construction planning, execution, documentation, cost tracking, and closeout.
Responsibilities:
Pre-Construction Support:


  • Assist Project Managers with estimating, scheduling, and reviewing Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and pre-construction planning sessions.
  • Project Coordination & Execution:
  • Coordinate project start-up activities and ensure all stakeholders are aligned.
  • Assist in coordinating construction activities and subcontractors on-site.
  • Support Project Managers in monitoring daily project progress to ensure timelines and budgets are met.



Project Administration & Documentation:


  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including agendas, RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, and meeting notes.
  • Ensure timely distribution of all project documents and maintain document control.
  • Facilitate communication between team members, subcontractors, and clients.



Financial Tracking & Change Management:


  • Track project costs and assist in reporting financial status to Project Managers.
  • Manage and support the change order process, including documentation and approvals.



Project Closeout & Quality Control:


  • Assist in project closeout activities, including completion of punch lists and final inspections.
  • Ensure all project documentation is complete and archived appropriately.
  • Coordinate and oversee final punch list items to ensure quality standards are met.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, project management, and document control is a plus.


Work Environment:


  • Office environment with frequent visits to construction sites.
  • Must be able to travel to job sites as required.
