Position Description

Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Davis College

The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics at Texas Tech University invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to state-of-the-art research at the intersection of environmental and resource economics and production economics. The candidate will focus on water quality and quantity, technology adoption, and migration and remittance. The position involves modeling problems in these areas using causal inference methods and optimization techniques to generate robust, policy-relevant evidence. The successful candidate will need to publish in high-impact journals and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

Major/Essential Functions


  • The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work primarily on collaborative research under the direction of Dr. Krishna Paudel. Responsibilities include conducting economic analysis using optimization models and causal inference regression techniques with observational data, writing journal articles and submitting grant proposals.

Required Qualifications

PhD in area of project specialization. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or Applied Economics with a focus on environmental/resource economics and production economics.
  • Experience with causal inference econometric methods using observational data.
  • Research background at the intersection of environmental/resource economics and production economics.
  • Proficiency in formulating and solving optimization models.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and writing skills with a record of scholarly productivity.
  • Ability to communicate research findings to a broader set of audiences, both in academia and out of academia.
