This position will champion the standardization and improvement of financial systems across member co-ops, and support GAAP-aligned reporting and systems adoption. This is an ideal position for finance leaders who are passionate about cooperative finance and operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain the integrity, structure, and documentation of the Common Chart of Accounts (CCOA) manage updates and revisions as needed.
- Evaluate proposed changes to account structure, numbering, and descriptions to maintain alignment with GAAP and operational comparability.
- Own the development, documentation, and ongoing maintenance of clear written procedures, training materials, and reference guides for all finance programs and systems.
- Design, develop, and pilot financial programs and services that strengthen co-op financial management and standardization. Potential areas of development may include financial reporting and budgeting, invoice processing, bill pay, or shared bookkeeping/accounting support.
- Collaborate with other NCG departments to create tools and systems that connect financial data to operational, product, and retail metrics.
- Lead implementation planning, training, and ongoing support for member co-ops adopting the CCOA and related programs.
- Provide direct support to member co-ops on finance and accounting projects, including transitions between accounting software platforms, rehabilitation of financial records (or coordination with third-party contractors performing that work), and establishment of bookkeeping systems for start-up co-ops.
- Negotiate, contract with, and oversee independent contractors and other consultants, including for budget support and finance assessments, as needed.
- Participate in the planning, coordination, and execution of NCG’s national finance Co+nnect conference.
- Provide strong and effective leadership and supervision for the Accounting & Budgeting Specialist.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Certified Public Accountant or equivalent advanced accounting experience
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, accounting, or related roles, including at least 5 years leading a finance department or overseeing accounting functions in a retail or multi-unit environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in GAAP-compliant financial reporting, accounting controls, and analysis, strong understanding of tax rules applicable to retail enterprises.
- Proven experience managing or implementing accounting systems and ERP solutions, including chart-of-accounts design and integration.
- Significant experience in financial modeling, forecasting, and data-driven decision support.
- Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining technical documentation and training resources (e.g., SOPs, manuals, process guides).
- Up to 25% of business travel is required, including overnights and weekends.

The salary for this position is $167,690.
