The Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track (
NTT) Assistant Research Professor (CY) in Physical Oceanography. We seek a research-oriented scientist who integrates observational and
computational approaches to study ocean circulation and variability in a changing climate.
The responsibilities of the Assistant Research Professor include:
- Leading and participating in field programs utilizing advanced autonomous observing platforms, including underwater gliders, moorings, and ship-based instrumentation.
- Apply advanced analytical techniques to understand ocean circulation, mixing, and energy pathways.
- Integrating diverse oceanographic datasets (in situ, remote sensing, and model output) to improve ocean state estimation and forecasting.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of faculty, students, and external partners on research that addresses climate-driven changes in the ocean system.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international scientific meetings.
- Contribute to proposal development and externally funded research programs in alignment with departmental priorities
The successful candidate will contribute to advancing the department's internationally recognized programs in ocean observing and prediction. The position is renewable annually, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
A Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography, or a closely related discipline. Must have a demonstrated expertise in autonomous ocean observing technologies.
A strong background in computational analysis, including working with large datasets and numerical modeling is required. Must have experience in designing and conducting field-based oceanographic research and evidence of scholarly productivity and potential for securing external research funding.
