What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Function: This position provides sports medicine services to student-athletes, with a focus on football student-athletes, including, but not limited to evaluation, diagnosis, management, treatment, rehabilitation and intervention of injuries and illnesses. This position works closely with the Ball State Athletic Administration, Director of Sports Medicine, Athletic Training Staff, Strength & Conditioning staff, and IU Health medical personnel to ensure a safe and healthy environment is in place for the student-athletes. This position also provides sports medicine services for student-athletes during open training room hours and is responsible for providing medical care during practices, games and tournaments, as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine. In addition, this position has the responsibility of educating, supervising, mentoring and evaluating graduate students and interns.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Serve as the athletic trainer for football, and have direct supervision for more sports, as necessary on a daily basis, as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.

Responsible for the complete spectrum of medical care (physical and mental) of Ball State student-athletes, including, but not limited to prevention, coverage of athletic events, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses.

Direct patient care through referral to the appropriate medical person outside or inside the university. This includes physician visits, diagnostic tests, surgeries, follow-ups and complying with appropriate procedures associated with insurance protocols.

Support the management of the sports medicine unit, including: 1.Policy and procedure development, 2.Procurement and inventory control, 3.Emergency protocols and equipment, 4.University and professional service, 5.Environmental safety, 6.Maintenance of facility & equipment, 7. Professional development, 8.Supervision of students, 9. Administering pre-participation screenings for student-athletes, and 10.Schedules nutrition and sport psychology programs.

Direct all communication between the athlete, training room staff, team physicians, and coaching staff for the assigned sports.

Provide education and mentoring for various groups within the university. This includes supervision, instruction and evaluation of undergraduate, graduate and medical students, medical residents and fellows, and university faculty and staff.

Contribute to a positive, collaborative, innovative culture of sports medicine and sports performance.

Show commitment to and responsibility for, adherence to all rules and regulations of Ball State University, the Mid-American Conference and the NCAA.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university by date of employment; NATA certification; Indiana Athletic Trainer State License or eligible for licensure.

At least two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree.

At least three years of related experience.
