Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to either Ludington Pump Storage, Norton Shores Service Center, and/or Grand Rapids Service Center. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Enterprise Project Management (EPM) Senior Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) Project Manager is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight for all assigned projects within the Existing Assets business segment, while effectively managing project risks. These projects may include new construction, major maintenance, system upgrades, and emergent initiatives to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant utility assets and infrastructure. The Senior EPC Project Manager will also oversee a portion of the Renewable Energy portfolio, managing projects ranging from portfolio-level initiatives to those of major complexity.


This position is directly accountable for the leadership, coordination, and management of multiple matrixed project teams and resources. The role encompasses all phases of the project lifecycle-from initiation and planning through execution and closeout. Responsibilities include developing and managing contracts and contracting strategies, addressing project issues, implementing corrective actions, escalating concerns as needed, resolving internal stakeholder conflicts, and ensuring the achievement of project metrics to drive predictable outcomes. The Senior EPC Project Manager is accountable for managing and reporting on key project and contract constraints, including safety, quality, scope, schedule, and budget, while ensuring alignment with overall project objectives.


All projects will be located at the Ludington Pumped Storage (LPS) facility. The role involves managing a portfolio of projects to ensure successful delivery of objectives. Close collaboration with Project Sponsors, Operations, and Engineering is essential to align outage planning and prioritize project interdependencies in support of overall plant capacity requirements.


The Senior EPC Project Manager leads complex technical projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget. This role leads cross-functional project teams, including internal stakeholders and external contractors. Responsibilities include planning, implementation, quality control, engineering oversight, safety compliance, status reporting, and project closeout. The Senior EPC Project Manager is also responsible for all project communications and for proactively managing risks to ensure project predictability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial forecasts and perform ongoing reconciliation of project resources and expenditures, ensuring projects remain within budget.
  • Identify and recommend new processes, techniques, and standards to drive performance improvements and resolve issues on existing projects.
  • Provide guidance to less-experienced EPC Project Managers on project governance and management principles.
  • Lead internal and external project teams through planning, design/engineering, execution, and commissioning of utility projects/programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive execution plans for complex projects, including procurement, milestone payments, cash flow, communications, risk mitigation, and resource management.
  • Plan and execute the Project Lifecycle Process (PLP), including preparation of standardized project deliverables, while meeting scope, cost, schedule, and quality objectives. Integrate safety into all project phases.
  • Oversee schedule development with the Project Scheduling group, incorporating constraints, risks, and mitigation strategies. Manage critical path, negative float, and compressed schedules. Communicate schedules effectively to the project team.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for communication and negotiation with stakeholders, including leadership, external partners, strategic customers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Identify and manage risks, issues, and constraints that may impact project execution or pose reputational risks. Develop contingency plans and mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to procurement strategies, contract development, negotiations, and analysis to optimize operational and financial performance while minimizing risk.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency in Project Management Institute (PMI) knowledge areas: Integration, Scope, Schedule, Cost, Quality, Resource, Communication, Risk, Procurement, and Stakeholder Management.
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and strategic analysis skills, with technical and business acumen.
  • Applied knowledge of engineering principles, technologies, and energy production/delivery systems.
  • Understanding of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, and team coordination.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex tactical and strategic problems using structured methodologies and action plans.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Effective cross-functional collaboration and communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in influencing, conflict resolution, team leadership, and decision-making.
  • Skilled in project management tools such as trend analysis, variance analysis, Pareto charts, matrix diagrams, and control charts. Familiarity with Lean principles and visual management tools.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in applied engineering or relevant field with four (4) or more years ofproject management experience working in accordance with EPM Project Lifecycle Processes (PLP) framework to improve predictability and effectively manage project risk and/or equivalent experience
