SUMMARY

The Manager Patient Safety and Clinical Effectiveness is responsible for overseeing patient safety and clinical effectiveness operations. Manages team members in reducing preventable harm, promoting continuous learning through event reviews, using continuous improvement methodology to advance clinical improvement projects, developing clinical pathways, and supporting high reliability principles at all levels of the organization. Partners with the System Patient Safety and Clinical Effectiveness Departments in addition to local clinical and administrative teams and leaders to ensure success on local and system-wide initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
1. Partners with leadership to oversee the ongoing development, coordination, and implementation of the organization's strategy and program; communicates mission, vision, progress and accomplishments across the organization; effectively engages partners and stakeholders and successfully navigates the political landscape.
2. Manages operations for a portfolio of clinical improvement projects and pathways, ensuring that projects adhere to organizational objectives, internal best practices, and external requirements.
3. Assigns and reviews work, provides work instruction (OTJ or formal training) and develops team members. Evaluates performance of team members, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues; hires and fires team members. Identifies resource needs and develops recommendations for meeting needs.
4. Effectively prioritizes and resources work of patient safety and clinical effectiveness team members; evaluates and coaches for technical proficiency and arranges for coaching or education when needed.
5. Facilitates organizational education and awareness of safety science, high reliability principles, human factors engineering, and continuous improvement tools and methodology.
6. Oversees incident reporting system to ensure effective use, robust reporting, timely response to issues reported, and reliable identification of harm, risk, and near misses.
7. Leads and facilitates event learning activities. Develops actionable recommendations from event reviews and monitors the implementation of corrective actions. Monitors timely completion of action plans and reports progress to hospital leadership.
8. Ensures adherence to state and federal safety regulatory requirements, healthcare accreditation standards, and all other applicable regulations that govern the use and disclosure of patient, financial or other patient safety and quality improvement information.
9. Manages, coordinates, and implements activities for the participation and success in external collaboratives and value-based programs, ensuring timely and accurate reporting as well as consistent active participation.
10. Continuously monitors data to measure, communicate, and improve project and program performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degrees
    • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, healthcare, or related field.

  • Experience
    • Five (5) years of progressive experience in healthcare, patient safety, risk, and/or quality, including relevant process improvement experience.
  • Equivalency
    • A Master's Degree in Nursing, healthcare, or related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Licenses & Certifications
    • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required for BSN.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $109,636.42 to $164,454.63
