What to Expect

The Sr. EHS Specialist, Residential Energy is responsible for driving, influencing, and achieving Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) process excellence, regulatory compliance, and overall risk reduction throughout Residential Energy teams within North America.

This position reports to the EHS Manager, Residential Energy and will ensure world-class electrical safety standards are met and sustained across operations. The role will interface with senior regional leadership, front-line operational staff, contracting partners, and other related teams within Tesla to drive and support continuous improvement throughout the installation and service of Tesla Energy's Residential and Charging Products.

This position is based in Riverside, CA and will require regional travel across the southwest region from Southern California to Arizona, given the geographical reach of the business.


What You'll Do
  • Proactive Field Engagement:Carry out learning-oriented field observations to verify adherence to EHS objectives, document observations, and collaborate with supervisors, operations, EHS, and other stakeholders to identify and discuss opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Strategic Partnerships and Advisory Role:Build strong relationships with Tesla Energy business leaders, associates, EHS team members, and contractors, serving as a trusted advisor on EHS matters to ensure alignment with safety and compliance goals
  • Technical Expertise in Electrical and Heights Safety:Provide specialized guidance on electrical safety and working at heights, ensuring legal compliance and effective risk management throughout all phases of product deployment, including design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance
  • Event Learning and Prevention:Conduct thorough learnings of EHS events, perform root cause analyses, and partner with management and business teams to develop preventative measures, integrating Human & Organizational Performance principles into operations and electrical incident reviews
  • Champion of Electrical Safety Programs:Lead the development and execution of Tesla's Electrical Safety program, crafting and implementing both immediate and long-term strategic initiatives to enhance safety standards
  • Innovative Problem-Solving for EHS Gaps:Identify operational deficiencies in EHS practices and drive innovative solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders, focusing on electrical safety and broader risk reduction strategies
  • Leadership in EHS Communication and Training:Facilitate EHS meetings to share updates, lessons learned, and performance metrics, while actively participating in field activities to educate, train, and empower teams on EHS principles, minimizing risks in alignment with Tesla's EHS vision and values

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) within large-scale organizations, supported by a formal education in EHS, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in electric power generation, transmission, storage, or distribution industries, with a strong preference for in-depth expertise in lithium-ion battery storage systems
  • Exhibit proficiency in designing and implementing safety programs that meet OSHA standards, coupled with comprehensive knowledge of Electrical Standards (OSHA, NFPA 70-E, IEEE, NEC) and hands-on experience with energized equipment in industrial environments
  • Possess specialized knowledge and practical experience in fall protection systems and protocols, including the design, implementation, and training for working at heights, ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations and best practices
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, globally expanding organization by applying a 'first-principles' approach, complemented by exceptional written and verbal communication skills to engage effectively with senior management, regulators, frontline workers, and third-party clients
  • Display a proven track record in managing complex, multidisciplinary projects with full accountability for outcomes, alongside experience in developing and delivering EHS training programs to educate employees at all levels
  • Offer demonstrated expertise in applying governmental and regulatory EHS requirements across diverse settings, paired with robust problem-solving capabilities, effective relationship-building, and the ability to influence stakeholders at all management levels, supported by proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite

    Expected Compensation
    $63,360 - $129,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
