Summary:

  • The Staff Physical Therapists provides patient care assessment and treatment. Identify, plan, and participate in rehabilitative programs that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and decrease/ prevent deformity. Responsible for mentoring Therapists, Assistants, Technicians, and Students. Collaborates with other healthcare team members and physicians in a multi-disciplinary fashion to deliver the highest quality of care. Participates in CQI activities. Facilitates the provision of excellent customer service.

Responsibilities:

1. Provides patient care assessment and treatment.

a. Perform initial evaluation.

    1. Assess patients; motor and development skills for the purpose of determining their deficits.
    2. Evaluate patient's physical and mental abilities and analyze data to determine realistic rehabilitation plan of care.
    3. Review regularly physician's referral and patient's medical records to help determine diagnosis and physical therapy treatment required.
    4. Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's medical record.
    5. Prepare a wide variety of written materials (e.g. evaluations, plans of care, progress notes, correspondence with physicians or other agencies related to patient care, etc.).
    6. Maintain patient records confidentially.
    7. Facilitate patient mobility skills including use of safe patient handling equipment.
    8. Manage equipment utilized in treatments.
    9. Adapt and modify environments, equipment, and materials to assist with promotion of functional mobility and amelioration of patients' deficits.
    10. Document and identify progress and plans for reevaluation.
    11. Evaluate effects of treatment and adjust treatment to maximize benefit.
    12. Facilitate social adjustment and prevent physical or mental disability.
      • Evaluates patients in a comprehensive age-appropriate manner. Sets quantifiable and realistic goals. Utilizes advanced judgment and skills in implementing treatment plans. Physician communication is timely and documentation is up-to-date. Patient mobility is accomplished using appropriate safe patient handling techniques and/or equipment. Maintains up-to-date cumulative physical therapy records.

2. Facilitates the provision of excellent customer service

    1. Takes the initiative to resolve client concerns or confirms that the appropriate party resolves the concerns.
    2. Educate patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home
    3. Instruct patient, educatinal personnel, and family to facilitate skills in areas of physical functining as well as health maintenance
    4. Train caregivers and patient how to provide for the needs of patient during and after therapy
    5. Promote activites that will help patients learn mobility skills within limits of their mental and physical capbilities
    6. Implement programs and activities to assist patients learn mobility skills and adjust to handicaps
    7. Recommend changes in patient's work or living environments, consistent with their needs and capabilities

  1. Teamwork
    1. Plan, coordinate, and provide training to family, patient, medical professionals
    2. Provide clinical educational opportunities for students and team members
    3. Provide direction, supervises physical therapist assistnats, techs
    4. Consult with rehabilitation team to select activity programs and coordinate physical therapy with other therapeutic activities
    5. Assists peer physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and other team members with workload as needed
      • Answers questions. Communicates hospital and departmental information.
      • Collaborates with other healthcare team members in a multi-disciplinary fashion.
      • Assists in the orientation of new employees
      • Mentors students and other rehab services personnel as assigned
      • Confer with patient, medical practioners and appropriate others to plan, implement and assess the intervention program

    4. Participate in continuing education for professional development to ensure techniques are consistent with best practice
    5. Maintain proficiency in physical therapy techniques
      • Arange the provision of education and training for new equipment and procedures. Build positive relationships with physicians, other healthcare team members and the community. Assist departmental promotional efforts.

  • EDUCATION
    • Bachelor's or Master's Degree or Doctorate in Physical Therapy from an accredited School of Physical Therapy.

  • LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
    • Current NC Board of Physical Therapy license or eligible.
