Job Title: Tool Crib Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

With limited guidance in a team environment, responsible for performing a variety of tooling support duties of a semi-complex nature following and developing procedures and processes in two or more of the following functions: tool crib, tool setting and tool and cutter grinding, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Select, assemble and set N/C and conventional tooling using presetting equipment to extremely close tolerances, determine correct set length and ensure that tools are marked and coded properly.

Follow setup instructions found on job setup and process sheets, in the standard tooling catalog or computerized system.

Check tools for sharpness and condition and determine if resharpening, retipping, repair or replacement is required and apply protective coatings to tools when necessary.

Operate and set-up some tool and cutter or other grinding machines to sharpen basic tools involving straight sides, single angles or symmetrical surfaces.

Select and mount proper grinding wheel and holding fixtures.

Set and adjust speeds, feeds, depth of cut and other machine controls.

Assist in the construction and checking of new or redesigned tools and rework existing tools according to specifications.

Diagnose and resolve problems involving tooling.

Assist in maintaining proper inventory levels and report deficiencies.

Receive, store and issue tools, jigs, fixtures, templates and shop supplies.

Check for broken, damaged or out-of-tolerance tools and fixtures, route them for proper repair and maintain records of withdrawals, returns, breakage and reconditioning.

Update necessary tooling setup information and isolate jobs to be maintained in pre-set for future runs.

Coordinate tooling requirements with manufacturing engineering, purchasing and other functions.

Maintain all tooling records for government and customer inventories and inspection. Maintain records of all tooling and fixtures sent to suppliers. Use computer terminal to track tooling activity and tool locations.

Observe all safety rules and regulations and maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.

Perform other related responsibilities.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. Three years related tooling experience or demonstrated ability to perform described position responsibilities.

Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments determining the condition and sizes of all tools and fixtures and excellent knowledge of shop tools, jigs, fixtures, templates, standard tooling system and computer terminal operations.

Proficient in the understanding of the function and geometry of all types of tools, holders and related equipment.

Must demonstrate manual dexterity.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Ability to read and follow forms, schematics and specifications.

May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must demonstrate effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player.

This position is subject to meeting U.S. export compliance and/or U.S. Government contracting citizenship eligibility requirements.
