| Description Job Summary:  Responsible for the strategic leadership, top line growth, profitability, and driving KLJ's brand and position within the Survey practice area. Oversees and directs practice area activities throughout the complete life cycle of projects - from pursuit and capture planning through project closeout and recording of revenue. Leverages technical skills, industry and market knowledge, and client and partner relationships to win and deliver projects to grow the Survey practice or discipline. Contributes to the community of the Survey practice - fostering knowledge transfer, staff development, employee engagement, and recruiting and retention of team members and managers. Job Duties and Responsibilities:  
  
 Develop and implement strategic operations and sales plans for the Survey area, in coordination with the Managing Director in alignment with Business Line's overall growth strategy.Drive the execution of the Survey's sales and key client account management strategies in collaboration with the Managing Director, including collaboration with peer Practice Leaders in other Business Lines to promote cross-selling of services.Manage Survey's operational and financial performance, including preparation of Practice-level annual budgets and revenue forecasts.Reports to managing directors and operational leadership on planned and proposed sales activities against goals, and progress with generating a specified volume of business within a pre-defined time frame.Provides strategic direction and operational management on a day-to-day basis to ensure that Survey's activities are organized and executing to maximum efficiency and effectiveness to positively impact sales, project delivery, revenue, retention, growth, quality, and client satisfaction.Responsible for managing and working within the overall organization to ensure that the practice is providing full lifecycle support - from pursuit and capture planning through project closeout and recording of revenue.Monitors and follows up with Survey practice area management to ensure the proper administration and progress of staff performance management actions (e.g. performance improvement plans, individual development plans, corrective action, etc.)Works with Survey area managers and team leaders in forecasting and planning their talent requirements in line with the business strategy through informed input on the utilization, availability, and skill sets of assigned staff.Develops, gathers, and reports the results of metrics and key performance indicators that describe and analyze the state of the practice, project delivery efforts, and client relationship(s).Ensures direct reports are meeting performance expectations, utilization, and project/business targets through monitoring, mentoring, coaching, and training.Facilitates practice area meetings, acts as a management change agent, presents the business case for adopting operational or corporate initiatives, administering the
 policies of the organization, and supports communication to practice area staff to build buy-in. 
  
 Monitors a portfolio of diverse projects, having a comprehensive knowledge of the clients and projects in the practice area and ensuring that all aspects of clients' initiatives and projects are understood, communicated, and on-track.Ensure accurate Practice-level client and pipeline data is maintained in the company's client relationship management (CRM) system to track opportunities, activities, and client relationships across the assigned area of responsibility.Lead and inspire Survey Regional team(s) for executing strategies for year-over-year growth objectives; continually assessing, developing and establishing the Practice's leadership and services teams' structure.Direct the hiring of Survey staff consistent with the staffing plan developed with the Managing Director, coordinating with Human Resources and supervisors to post job requisitions as needed to meet the staffing plan.Resolve operational and associated business challenges in coordination with the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer.Support contract negotiations in collaboration with project management and legal teams.Manage key business metrics relating to sales, project delivery, utilization, and client satisfaction.Acts as practice area gatekeeper for employee hires, promotions, terminations, or transfers.Support a high-performing culture with an emphasis on utilization, client satisfaction, safety, quality, project delivery, enhancing margin, and repeat business.Participate in conferences and seminars, representing KLJ in social, community, and business situations.Remain current in the latest AEC industry, Client Relationship Management, Project Delivery, and Sales trends and practices.Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and adhere to professional conduct and KLJ's policies and procedures.Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
 Qualifications:  
  
 Bachelor's degree in engineering, surveying, geospatial or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.10+ years of relevant post education experience in leading and overseeing projects within the practice area discipline(s).5+ years of department operations and leadership experience, including direct experience with assessing and managing operational performance via a business profit and loss.Professional surveyor or related discipline licensure preferred.Possess sound business awareness and acumen of current market and business conditions, revenue and profit potential, major clients and competitors, and cost-benefit analysis regarding the profitable operation of a major practice area within an organization.Is a well-connected operator within the practice area, market, and region who acts as a keen networker and brand ambassador in order to drive the KLJ business vision and brand and actively participates in the recruitment of top talent.Well-developed analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge business and entrepreneurship.Competent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of technical principles, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and optimal outcomes on the business.Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally in an inspiring manner.Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance, mentoring, and leadership to junior managers and practice area members.Competent with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.Highly effective at coordinating resources and professionally directing others to complete tasks, projects, and work products competently and efficiently.Effective at eliciting cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior/executive management, consultants, clients, government officials, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exits.Ability to work schedules conducive to practice/project/client-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.Occasional to frequent travel may be required depending on role or project requirements.

 Hours and Travel: This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with 70% of time spent in the office and 30% out of the office. The salary for this position is expected to range between $140,000 - $190,000.
