Clinical Research Coordinator I - Infectious Diseases

Position Summary

The Columbia University Division of Infectious Diseases Research Unit and the Cohen Center for Infection-Associated Chronic Illnesses (IACI) is looking for a clinical research coordinator to join our team working in infectious diseases including long COVID, HIV and other infectious diseases of public health importance. This position presents opportunities for professional development.

Responsibilities

• Assist with recruitment, screening procedures, patient and participant education about study protocols, administering questionnaires and collecting data in accordance with study protocols
• Explain research protocols and obtain informed consent.
• Perform required screening and on-going study evaluations. Develop and maintain research procedures with the goal of standardization, increase efficiency and ensure compliance with all guidelines, protocols, and federal regulations.
• Communicate with various departments and all members of the clinical team to ensure accuracy, timely retrieval of data, and confirm the appropriateness and timeliness of tests.
• Collect follow-up data on patients' post-treatment as required by the protocol and entering information into systems for tracking patient enrollment and follow-up visits.
• Ensure information is entered into systems for accounts/payments for sponsored protocols.
• Assist in both the development and completion of case report forms in accordance with study protocol requirements and collaborate with the research team in developing and implementing data collection tools and quality management plans.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of SOP's
• Ensure that data and study samples are collected, transported, and stored in accordance with study protocols
• Enter data into the appropriate database including electornic health records; and quality assurance activities as assigned to ensure that study data are entered and transmitted in a timely fashion.
• Assist the research staff in preparing appropriate clinical and laboratory forms, materials and documentation to ensure that the protocol mandated procedures are followed accurately.
• Assist with community facing activities to increase awareness and dissemination of our work
• Work closely with the PI to ensure smooth operations and efficient communication with the lab and research pharmacy
• Perform repository of specimens, logging of specimens shipped to central labs and quality control of database.
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in health-related, biological, social science, or informatics field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in infectious disease clinical care and/or research.
• Prior training or experience in phlebotomy.
• Experience working with diverse and marginalized populations.
• Phlebotomy training
• Fluency in Spanish.

Other Requirements

• Attention to detail, ability to manage time effectively and strong organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of a variety of computer and software applications [Microsoft office, REDCap, electronic data entry systems i.e. Medidata].
• Ability to handle confidential information and maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA.
