Overview

The Private Equity business within Goldman Sachs Asset Management makes direct equity investments across North America and Europe in a broad range of industries. We focus on buyouts and control investments in the US and EMEA and target an investment size range of $200-600 million in any single investment with the ability to invest >$1 billion. Our goal is to maximize investment value through operational and financial value creation with a focus on achieving long-term capital appreciation by committing equity to high quality companies with strong management teams.

Associates in Private Equity work on small sector-focused teams responsible for the acquisition and management of investments. We are searching for an Associate to join the Energy Transition team, whose areas of focus include clean energy solutions, equipment, service and technology providers for the power grid, energy efficiency, resource circularity, and water lifecycle management solutions, among others. You will be involved in a wide range of high-profile transactions, which may include leveraged buyouts, management buyouts, take-privates, add-on acquisitions, build ups, restructurings, recapitalizations, and dispositions.

Responsibilities

We are looking for highly motivated associates to be integrally involved in all aspects of private equity investing on the Energy Transition team. This candidate will work directly with managing directors, vice presidents and associates as part of small teams that are responsible for the diligence, acquisition, structuring and management of Energy Transition investment opportunities. Examples of responsibilities include:



  • Building and maintaining comprehensive financial models
  • Researching and assessing potential investment opportunities
  • Assisting in developing investment theses
  • Undertaking significant due diligence responsibilities and coordinating with third-party diligence advisors
  • Participating in investment approval processes
  • Reviewing and analyzing investment opportunities
  • Participating in structuring, negotiating, and documenting investments
  • Interacting with senior company executives and industry experts to support views and generate ideas
  • Building relationships with management teams and partners
  • Participating in the monitoring of new and existing investments
  • Supporting portfolio companies in strategic and operational projects including value creation initiatives, add-on acquisitions, financings, asset sales, and capital allocation decisions



Qualifications

In selecting candidates, we look for individuals who have a commitment to excellence, a demonstrated interest in investing, and strong skills in finance. Other specific skills include:



  • Undergraduate class of 2024, with 1.5+ years of investment banking experience
  • Preference for background in Natural Resources or Industrials with strong M&A transaction experience
  • Strong financial analysis / modeling experience
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a variety of industries and business profiles
  • Ability to self-direct, analyze and evaluate and form independent judgments
  • Investment acumen
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Resourceful approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to interact and build relationships with a wide range of people
  • Top-tier teamwork skills
  • Detail orientation



Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $150000-$225000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
