Position Overview

The Electronics Technician I provides technical and operational support for the Primary Training Ranges (PTR) at Holloman AFB, NM. The technician assists in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of complex electronic, radar, and communication systems that support Electronic Warfare (EW), Bombing and Gunnery (B&G), and range training missions. This entry-level role performs both preventive and corrective maintenance under supervision, ensuring all range equipment, sensors, and scoring systems are mission-ready, safe, and compliant with Air Force standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations Support




  • Support daily range operations, including setup, system checks, and shutdown of radar, telemetry, scoring, and communication systems.





  • Operate assigned communications-electronic (C-E) systems such as Joint Threat Emitters (JTE), MUTES, Mini-MUTES, Smokey SAMs, and related EW assets in accordance with AFMAN 13-212V1 and range procedures.





  • Conduct pre- and post-operational inspections using established checklists to verify calibration, system alignment, and readiness.





  • Support mission activities by maintaining reliable data links and communications between ground stations and aircrews.




Maintenance and Repair




  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs) and on-equipment/off-equipment repairs following technical orders (TOs) and manufacturer guidance.





  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and RF system issues on emitters, antennas, sensors, and power systems.





  • Support installation, modification, and alignment of communication towers, antennas, and cables per OSHA 1910.268 standards.





  • Maintain records of maintenance actions, inspections, and component replacements IAW contract and Air Force documentation standards.




Facility and Equipment Care




  • Assist in maintaining facilities, test equipment, generators, and environmental systems that support range operations.





  • Support range custodial and general upkeep duties to maintain safe, orderly work areas and proper equipment storage.




Safety and Compliance




  • Follow all site safety procedures, fire protection standards, and environmental management requirements.





  • Maintain compliance with applicable Technical Orders, AFIs, and local operating instructions.




Required Qualifications:




  • High school diploma or equivalent.





  • 2-3 years of experience in electronic or electromechanical maintenance, repair, or installation.





  • Basic knowledge of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) and electronics theory.





  • Familiarity with military systems such as radar, communications, or threat emitters preferred.





  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical orders.





  • Must be able to work outdoors in austere environments and lift up to 50 lbs.





  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance required.




Preferred Qualifications:




  • Department of Labor Electronics Technician I classification or equivalent military 3-/5-level experience.





  • Experience supporting range or field electronics for DoD training or test environments.





  • Familiarity with systems such as RIIS, JTE, MUTES, RWR-LITE, BCSS, and other EW range assets.





  • Experience with fiber-optic, RF, and digital communications equipment.





  • Knowledge of Air Force maintenance documentation standards (IMDS, MDC, JDD).





  • OSHA tower safety or basic RF radiation safety certification.




Work Environment:




  • Work is performed both indoors (maintenance shops, control centers) and outdoors across multiple training ranges.





  • Must be available for shift work, occasional weekends, and extended hours to support mission schedules.





  • Position may require travel to other ranges or test sites within New Mexico.
