Chief Systems Engineer

LOCATION: Kirtland AFB, NM

JOB STATUS: Full-time

CLEARANCE: TS/SCI (SAP Eligibility)

CERTIFICATION: INCOSE CSEP or ESEP (preferred)

TRAVEL: As Needed

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Systems Engineer to support the Hybrid Architecture and Development for Experimental Systems (HADES) program in Albuquerque, New Mexico at Kirtland AFB. The purpose of the HADES Contract is for support services providing Ground Operations and Development (GOD) support and services of the Research and Development Space and Missile Operations (RDSMO) program Ground System Enterprise (GSE).

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead technical authority for all systems engineering (SE) activities, ensuring alignment with program objectives and Government requirements.

  • Lead the development and execution of system architectures, designs, and integration plans for space ground systems.

  • Oversee system-level analyses, including trade studies and Analyses of Alternatives (AoA), to inform design and acquisition decisions.

  • Manage and coordinate design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.) and ensure technical baselines are properly established and maintained.

  • Drive implementation of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices, tools, and documentation standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and subcontractors to ensure seamless integration, verification, and sustainment of delivered systems.

  • Utilize JIRA, Confluence, and related tools to manage requirements, track progress, and maintain configuration control.

  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and decision-making support across the engineering team.

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with SAP eligibility.

  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, aerospace, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.

  • INCOSE CSEP or ESEP certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in systems engineering for space ground systems, including integration and sustainment.

  • Proven expertise in MBSE methodologies and proficiency with tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw, JIRA, and Confluence.

  • Demonstrated experience leading design reviews, trade studies, and AoA efforts for complex systems.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to interface effectively with both technical teams and Government stakeholders.
