Brief Description:

The Maintenance Manager is field focused and serves as the first line Manager for the field service technicians providing maintenance support to operational rigs. The Maintenance Manager is expected to have a close working relationship with the operations team and Senior Technical Service Manager, to proactively assist in reducing non-productive time and maintenance costs. The Maintenance Manager meets work objectives via Company and, when necessary, third-party technicians. The Maintenance Manager will keep a regional perspective and think strategically while ensuring that local responses to maintenance activities are efficient and effective. The Maintenance Manager will supervise and direct a variable sized team of personnel depending on operational and maintenance project requirements.

Detailed Description:

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of individuals ensuring the following objectives and tasks are met:

Manage Maintenance Program



  • Maintain an appropriate level of critical spare and replacement parts inventory to support field operations
  • Conduct equipment downtime and damage investigations as required and timely submit reports as needed, identifying causation and cost reduction opportunities
  • Receive maintenance requests from Operations and assign resources based on priority in support of overall operations
  • Coordinate parts and equipment delivery for onsite maintenance
  • Develop and execute response plans in coordination with and approved by the Operations Group and Senior Technical Service Manager
  • Provide timely reports on all field repairs with estimated time of completions, providing expected delivery times on parts requiring onsite delivery for repair completion and labor status to include technician arrival times and estimated work hours
  • Partner with Operations to develop and implement best practices for maintenance policies and procedures
  • Provide work order analysis to identify failure trends and opportunities to improve efficiencies
  • Provide job planning and quotes for Capital Project Requests (CPR)
  • Coordinate and manage proper utilization of third party contractors and service
  • Coordinate, track, and report on technical and depot level repairs
  • Coordinate equipment transfers through the Equipment & Yard Manager (EYS)


Manage Maintenance Personnel



  • Work with Filed Foreman to supervise field maintenance personnel on a daily basis to provide work order assignments and required materials for work order completion
  • Evaluate and conduct reviews for maintenance personnel as necessary
  • Ensure maintenance personnel are performing all work in accordance with Company policies and procedures
  • Participate in maintenance personnel hiring, promotions, and selections processes


Operational and Technical Level Maintenance Training



  • Schedule and provide technical training related to operational and technical levels of maintenance
  • Identify training needs required in field operations and assist in developing training material as required
  • Ensure competency of technicians performing training and providing on-the-job instruction


Oracle Enterprise Business Suite (EBS) Processes



  • Ensure all material and equipment transactions within the region are completed in accordance with Company policies and procedures
  • Provide Capital Project Request (CPR) support for required equipment when applicable
  • Implement processes and procedures to facilitate rig and yard asset maintenance planning and schedules in order to maintain accurate and current equipment maintenance status
  • Maintain and report on asset maintenance records in Oracle EBS
  • Track and report on compliance with equipment maintenance requirements


Job Requirements:



  • Established interpersonal skills including ability to interact productively with coworkers and third parties
  • Knowledge of oil and gas field components, including software and hardware
  • Strong trouble shooting and problem-solving skills is essential
  • Knowledge of all disciplines that pertain to the operation, and maintenance of drilling rigs to include motor, engine, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical control systems
  • Provide technical support to field personnel as required to assist with troubleshooting PLC and control system issues
  • Ability to demonstrate core competencies for electronics and electrical troubleshooting
  • Able to effectively make technical decisions on equipment issues
  • Intermediate to advanced level computer skills with a proven ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications, e.g. MS Word, Power Point, Project, Visio, Excel etc. and other MS software applications to drive efficiency in productivity

Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent education
  • 5+ years' relevant work experience on or around drilling rigs
  • 3+ years of experience with controls/automation (preference within the drilling industry) and strong working knowledge of VFD, SCR, and PLCs used in the oil and gas industry or related field
  • Possess a state-issued driver's license and be eligible to drive a Company vehicle and meet the Company's Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy requirements


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field
  • 3+ years' of operational experience working for a drilling contractor or closely related service
  • Experience with NOV/Amphion and SLB systems and controls
  • Experience with Yaskawa, GE, and ABB VFD systems
  • 2+ years working experience in Oracle Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) or other Oracle Applications is preferred
  • Previous managerial experience
  • Previous work experience in asset management
  • Previous work experience in purchasing or shipping and receiving


Additional Details:

This position requires the person to work in both office locations and outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including precipitation, cold/heat, high wind, and turbulent conditions. The Maintenance Manager will be occasionally exposed to the typical conditions of the local area where the drilling operations and rigs are located. The Maintenance Manager must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. The incumbent must be able to work closely with others and under time-sensitive response requirements. The person must also be willing to work extended schedules that may include working days and occasionally nights, weekends and holidays.
