| Description Job Summary: This mechanic position demonstrates the ability to perform basic inspections, basic diagnoses, and basic repairs of diesel-powered heavy equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Works as a member of a team to provide basic mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals. Entry-level position - Generally has less than two years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job; works under immediate supervision. Essential Functions: 
  
 Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and MissionPerforms basic disassembles and assembles of machine components to manufacturer's specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling Assists in the rebuilding, repairing, reconditioning, and maintaining of equipment and componentsDemonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop managementLearns how to plan equipment and component repairsLearns how to complete parts orders and identify parts for returnMaintains all equipment and work areas - keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standardsWorks overtime as required by workload and customers' needsUpdates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths Requires regular and punctual employee attendance Performs other duties as assigned 
 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  
 General knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenanceKnowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt moving equipent preferred  Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systemsQuality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findingsOperation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systemsEquipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repairThe ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objectsThe ability to read, write, and understand informationThe ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentencesMust have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
 Education and Experience: 
  
 One or more years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferredHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

 Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 poundsConstant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and staminaAscends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

 Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical partsMay be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity Noise level may be loud at timesExposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipmentRequires wearing common protective or safety equipment Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
