Job Summary
A postdoctoral position in protein engineering is available in the laboratory of Sheel Dodani in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Texas at Dallas. The candidate is expected to conduct research focused on (a) development, investigation, and application of novel genetically encoded biosensors. Projects involve protein engineering, computational modeling, spectroscopy, cell biology, and fluorescence microscopy.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious scientist with an established background in Protein Biochemistry who is interested to work at the interface of chemistry and biology within a highly interactive and motivated group of colleagues.
Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D in a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience
The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, strong protein biochemistry skills, excellent communication skills, and a proven record of scientific accomplishments. Prior experience with protein engineering, computational modeling, cell biology, and fluorescence microscopy is a plus but not required.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute experimental studies towards novel protein therapeutics.
  • Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team to design experiments and validate hypotheses.
  • Prepare reports and present findings at group meetings, national and international conferences.
  • Write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Mentor graduate students and assist with the setup of the research group.
