This semi-skilled position plays a key role in maintaining the city's water distribution system through construction, service, and repair activities. Your work directly supports public health, fire safety, and the daily lives of thousands of residents. If you're ready to make a meaningful difference through hands-on service, we want you on our team. ** Employees who reside in the City of West Allis receive an additional 5% pay on top of the rate established for this position. ** What You'll Do As a Maintenance Repairer, you'll perform manual and semi-skilled tasks to support the upkeep of the City's water system 
 
    Working independently or as part of a crew to repair, replace, and maintain water mains, valves, water services, and fire hydrantsPerforming curb box, hydrant, and valve preventive maintenanceLocating underground utilities in response to Digger's Hotline requestsReading and recording water meter data at residential, commercial, and industrial propertiesConducting meter maintenance and testingOperating heavy motorized equipment such as loaders, drill rigs, and hydro-excavation trucksPerforming light to heavy manual labor and assisting in the maintenance and repair of City-owned buildings and grounds as neededRecommending improvements to procedures and processes to enhance efficiencySupporting departmental initiatives, including strategic planning, LEAN practices, and innovationMaintaining prompt, predictable, and regular attendanceProviding truthful and accurate written and verbal communicationMaintaining the ability to lawfully operate designated motor vehicles and travel throughout the jurisdictionPerforming other duties as assigned, including tasks outside the scope of the Maintenance Repairer classification when qualified

    2-3 years of experience maintaining water distribution systems, including piping, valves, and hydrantsA High School Diploma or GEDA valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record per City policyThe ability to obtain a CDL Class B or C with airbrakes and Tanker Endorsement within 3 months of hire As you take care of our city, we'll take care of you.
