JOB SUMMARY

This position develops expert level skills to perform testing of large power transformers and their components during Final Acceptance Test (FAT).

Transformer testing comprises several key procedures, including control wiring checks for the verification of fans, LTC, and electronic monitor operations, and Low/medium-voltage tests like ratio, capacitance, Hipot, and frequency response. FAT includes high voltage testing to verify guaranteed performance (Losses) and thermal characteristics in addition to dielectric testing like lightning & switching impulse, Induce Over voltage Test, and partial discharge measurements.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Primary duties will be to perform various tests listed below on large Power Transformers complying with IEEE standards and HV Safety protocols per NFPA70E including Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) and Fall protection while working at heights.
      • Control Wiring and Instrumentation: Perform comprehensive pre-test verification and testing of control wiring and instrumentation, following schematics, test procedures (TPs), test standard operating procedures (TSOPs), and device manuals. Set and program electronic and PLC-based instrumentation, troubleshoot, and correct wiring errors.
      • Low/Medium Voltage Testing: Perform preliminary and low-voltage electrical tests (up to 10KV) in both manufacturing and test floor environments. This suite of tests encompasses Doble, Hipot, resistance, DGA, CT Test
      • Test Setup/Support: Setup and teardown of test equipment and transformers for/after Dielectric and performance tests
      • Performance Testing: Conduct performance test like Transformer losses and Sound level measurement, which can be up to 345KV and 20,000A.
      • High-Voltage/DiElectric Testing: Conduct high-voltage tests such as Lightning Impulse, Switching Surge, and Applied voltage and induced over voltage test, that can be as high as 2000KV.
  • Nonconformity handling including documenting, Investigating and segregating parts

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical theory and safety protocols for high-voltage systems.
  • Ability to accurately read and understand electrical and electronic circuit blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Using test instruments such as multimeters & oscilloscopes.
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations, including algebra, scientific notation, and unit conversions, to solve formulas and verify tolerances.
  • Skill in interpreting and applying technical procedures to document out-of-tolerance or non-compliant test results.
  • Troubleshoot test failures and investigate root causes using established technical procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), or engineering guidance.
  • Document, investigate, and properly segregate nonconforming materials and products.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work environment, including the workstation, test equipment, floor, and office, in line with 5S methodology.
  • Maintain strict attention to detail during testing and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Utilize electronic calculators and Windows-based applications with a high level of competency, including data entry into electronic systems.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, engineers, and peers in English, both verbally and in written form.

Preferred skills:

  • Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to test, troubleshoot, and resolve wiring errors in electrical components.
  • Perform high-voltage testing and maintenance on heavy electrical equipment, such as transformers and switch gears.
  • Execute tests and perform diagnostics on equipment using three-phase power sources.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment issues using LabVIEW and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
