Description The Sr Medical Director contributes to the development of organizational standards, strategies, and objectives for operational, financial, and clinical performance that align to the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of MaineHealth. Collaborating with Senior Director of Practice Operations, this person is responsible for operational, financial, and clinical strategies, and providing medical group leadership. This individual will support and be an active leader in MHMG for quality, safety, regulatory, and growth initiatives. The Senior Medical Director partners in a dyad relationship with the Senior Director of Practice Operations on ambulatory clinical care, access, operations, quality, strategy, patient experience, care team engagement and finances for the Coastal Health Alliance. This dyad collaborates with the other ambulatory dyads across MaineHealth Medical Group (MHMG). In collaboration with the Regional Vice President, Physician and Advanced Practice Professional Services, Coastal Region, the Regional CMO and MHMG CMO will work to align and Integrate Coastal Health Alliance specialties along with the other Regional MG leaders, service line and specialty council leaders, and CMO's to ensure a fully integrated health system. Coastal LHSs (Local Health Systems) MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital & MaineHealth Waldo Hospital Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) 1. Education: Medical or Allied Health Degree. 2. License/Certifications: Hold active Medical License in Maine, and Board Certification in their clinical area. 3. Experience: A minimum of ten years of progressive leadership roles in healthcare. Essential Functions (Rated Section for Performance Reviews) o Strategic Implementation and Oversight: This role provides crucial physician leadership in all phases of care strategies and initiatives within the MHMG. This includes the planning, design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of these programs. o Shared Accountability through Dyads/Triads: They work in close partnership, often in dyadic or triadic relationships, with respective Vice Presidents (VPs) and medical directors. This collaborative model ensures shared accountability for key performance indicators such as clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, financial performance, quality, and patient satisfaction. o Leading and Developing Medical Directors: A significant part of the role involves leading a team of medical directors, empowering them to translate broader strategies into tangible day-to-day practice operations. This includes regular meetings, coaching, and mentoring to foster their leadership and operational skills. o Cultivating Relationships and Collaboration: The Senior Medical Director is responsible for developing and nurturing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, fostering a collaborative environment. o Driving Standardization and Continuous Improvement: They champion efforts to standardize processes and drive continuous improvement across the entire MHMG, aiming for consistent excellence in care delivery. o Upholding MaineHealth Values: The Senior Medical Director is seen as a role model for physicians and Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs), consistently embodying the core values of MaineHealth. o Bridging Communication Gaps: They act as a vital bridge in communications between senior medical group leadership and individual medical directors/operations teams. o Advocating for Clinicians and the Organization: This individual performs a dual advocacy role: * Advocating to administration for the needs of clinicians and care team members, ensuring the organization honors its commitments to them. * Advocating to clinicians and care team members for the needs of the organization, holding individuals accountable for their commitments. o Active Participation in Leadership Meetings: The Senior Medical Director actively participates in important leadership forums, including the Senior Management Team meetings, various boards, and other key committees, ensuring physician leadership is represented at the highest levels. o May perform other duties as assigned Coastal Health Alliance is located in the beautiful Midcoast communities of Rockport and Belfast, Maine, offering a scenic coastal lifestyle with access to ocean, lakes, mountains, and vibrant year-round cultural and recreational opportunities. |
