Weapon Systems Solutions Engineer, Lead

The Opportunity:

As a Lead Weapon Systems Solutions Engineer, you'll guide our engineering solutions team in delivering cutting-edge systems for USAF air-to-ground and air-to-air weapons. Your deep expertise in hardware systems architecture, cable assembly design, electro-mechanical development, mission planning, and cybersecurity in highly classified environments will transform the Air Power Weapons portfolio through innovation and technical excellence.

On our team, you'll lead engineers in architecting robust hardware and software integrations of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) electronics, oversee development of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), and manage collaborations with partner companies. You will direct Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) test campaigns, validate system performance under realistic mission conditions, and implement anti-tamper and penetration testing measures. Your leadership will foster talent development and drive exploration into AI/ML driven modeling and simulation, cloud-based test orchestration, and networked collaborative autonomy.

In this role, you'll lead the design, development, and integration of advanced USAF weapons systems and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) lab infrastructure. Your work will span cable assemblies, COTS sensor interfaces, flight motion simulators, anechoic chambers, scene generators and projectors, data links, RF communications, PNT systems, and high-bandwidth real-time interfaces.

You'll lead system architecture development through hands-on involvement in cable design, rack-and-stack computing configurations, interface control documentation, facility management, and calibration processes. Your technical leadership will be instrumental in planning and executing HITL and Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) test campaigns, leveraging 6-DOF scene generation and sensor fusion to assess system performance under realistic mission conditions.

As part of our cybersecurity-first approach, you'll conduct rigorous testing and validation, perform vulnerability assessments and penetration testing, and lead anti-tamper evaluations to ensure systems meet stringent performance, reliability, and security standards in highly classified environments.

Your insights will shape mission planning from both weapons and aircraft perspectives, guiding trade studies, analysis of alternatives, and capability assessments to align technical solutions with operational needs. You'll collaborate across disciplines, working closely with partner companies and government clients, while mentoring junior engineers and sharing your expertise in systems engineering and cybersecurity.

You'll also be responsible for preparing detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, security assessments, mission briefs, and program status updates for senior leadership and key stakeholders. With a sharp eye on program cost, schedule, and technical performance, you'll identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure resources are allocated efficiently.

To stay ahead of the curve, you'll continuously explore emerging technologies like AI/ML, cloud services, data analytics, modeling and simulation, MBSE, and network collaborative autonomy, bringing innovative thinking to every challenge you face.

Take on a pivotal leadership role as we enhance warfighter readiness, precision strike capabilities, and mission success through advanced weapon systems solutions.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 10+ years of experience in an engineering or technical leadership role within the aerospace or defense industry

  • 5+ years of experience in a supervisory role leading teams of scientists and engineers

  • Experience with cable design, systems architecture, and integration of COTS sensors into larger systems

  • Experience in engineering tools and software, such as PENCURV, AFSIM, CAD, MATLAB, and Simulink

  • Experience with DoD simulation environments, including SITL or HITL, such as dynamic real-time multispectral scene generation, midcourse or navigation simulation, and datalink or radio communication modeling

  • Experience in weapon-specific cybersecurity measures, including anti-tamper technologies, penetration testing, reverse engineering, and vulnerability assessment

  • Knowledge of USAF air-to-ground and air-to-air weapons systems subcomponents and aircraft interfaces, including fuze and warhead, mission computing, outer mold line actuation, seeker or INS, propulsion, production, and flight testing

  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering field

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, such as Cameo or Rhapsody

  • Experience with Network Collaborative Autonomy

  • Experience with cybersecurity frameworks and standards relevant to defense contracting, such as NIST SP 800-171 or DoD Information Technology Security Certification and Accreditation Process (DITSCAP)

  • Experience with USAF standards, regulations, and acquisition processes

  • Knowledge of advanced technologies, such as AI/ML, cloud services, and data warehousing

  • Knowledge of Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) for weapons systems

  • Master's degree in a STEM field
