Description

The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive toempower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being.We are currently seeking aLife Skills Coordinatorto work in our Long Term Foster Care (LTFC) Program.

Position Summary:

The Life Skills Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of Life Skills services to Unaccompanied Children, UC, in care. This position is responsible for assisting youth in building competencies which will allow them to live independently. It is the chief role of the Coordinator to source out, arrange or facilitate activities that will raise the capacity and increase the self esteem and wellness of youth; providing activities that develop life skills; build capacity and independence in the LTFC program.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:



  • Utilizes the Casey Life Skills Assessment to identify and implement life skills/vocational programs to improve and/or maintain the functional independence of students.
  • Facilitates the Casey Life Skills Assessment within 72 hours of arrival to the program
  • Works to develop life skill programming that includes, but is not limited to: financial literacy, employment skills, hygiene, health, food literacy, drug awareness, mental wellness, educational planning, tenant's rights, first aid, youth leadership, relationship building, self-esteem, resume writing, job interviewing and networking skills.
  • Facilitates individual life skills sessions for LTFC youth on a monthly basis, at minimum.
  • Planning and implementation of group life skills for LTFC youth.
  • Continually develops a roster of events, in collaboration with LTFC youth themselves, that will engage and attract youth.
  • Defines a clear set of goals and of life-skills themes to be covered.
  • Using a variety of creative educational methods, provides one to one direction, weekly and ad hoc workshops, and group activities designed to address life skills, employment and personal development needs.
  • Works with house supervisors to encourage youth participation in life skills programming.
  • Ensures that all Life Skills sessions are documented in the internal database on a weekly basis.
  • Submits monthly and quarterly reports including, but not limited to the number of sessions, attendance, activities and the various topics and themes that were addressed.
  • Ensures that all safety protocols are followed when off-site events are arranged.
  • Facilitates job placement for youth who have been authorized to work.



Schedule: Sunday-Thursday 9:30am-6:30pm, Friday-Saturday OFF.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:




  • Associates Degree; minimum 2 years child welfare experience; experience beyond 2 years combined with a High School Diploma or equivalent may be used to offset education requirements.



  • Related experience in a child welfare agency



  • New York State Driver's License in good standing as determined by the Agency.



  • Bilingual in English and Spanish





Preferred Qualifications:




  • Related Child Welfare and/or case management experience.
