Our client is a growing manufacturing leader of precision machined components serving aerospace, defense, oil, gas, microwave technology, industrial and commercial sectors. Their team is committed to producing the highest quality work using the latest state-of-the-art equipment, technology, and manufacturing methods. The company, which serves a global market, is in Agawam, Massachusetts.
Shift Hours:
1st Shift: 7am to 3:30pm - with occasional overtime based on a 40-hour week. (on-site)
2nd Shift: 3pm to 11:30pm - with occasional overtime based on a 40-hour week. (on-site)
The Role:
Seeking a confident, efficient person to fill this important role in our quality department. We are looking for an experienced Quality Technician and CMM Programmer / Operator who can inspect aerospace parts per customer blueprints and specifications within a machine shop environment and help enhance the productivity of our organization and ensure that continuous improvement process is maintained.
This is a hands-on role ideal for a quality-driven professional with aerospace experience who thrives in fast-paced, precision-focused environments The successful candidate will be responsible for CMM programming and operation, performing first article inspections (FAI), manual inspections, ensuring compliance with AS9100/AS9102, and managing quality interaction within the department"s team and across all internal departments.
Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance:
oAssist in establishing and maintaining robust quality management systems for aerospace manufacturing and maintenance.
oAssist with conducting comprehensive audits and inspections to assess compliance with quality and customer specifications and standards.
oPerform visual and dimensional inspections on incoming materials, in-process parts, and finished products using tools like calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and other tools.
oIdentify defects, deviations from specifications, and non-conforming materials, and report them according to established procedures.
oVerify CMM measurement results using alternative metrology techniques
oPerform process and procedure audits in the manufacturing environment
oLead in-house or on-site customer product sorts and re-inspections to resolve quality issues
oIssue, maintain and implement activities relating to corrective and/or preventive action
oImplement and maintain quality systems in accordance with ISO 9001 guidelines.
oCollaborate with engineering Production and Purchasing teams to troubleshoot and resolve any quality-related issues.
oDocument inspection results and maintain accurate records for traceability and compliance purposes.
oParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality and operational efficiency
oInspect and ensure parts comply with customer and company specifications and standards as well as Federal and State law.
oEnsure test equipment is calibrated and working correctly.
oIdentify possible areas for improvement in quality control processes.
oEnsure production is not hindered by quality testing procedures.
oEnsure CMM is working at optimal capacity for accuracy and efficiency.
oComplete inspection documentation and report discrepancies to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations and quality standards.
oDetermine part inspection requirements from internal or customer drawings.
oCreate or edit programs for the coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
oUtilize the programs to complete dimensional inspection using the coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
oUnderstand and utilize GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) to complete detailed part inspection.
oEnsure the part inspection programs are consistent with part number and revision level.
oComplete AS 9100/ISO 9001 dimensional reports.
oConduct finished product inspections with hand gauges and other measurement systems.
oPerform inspections on incoming goods as required.
oLog and maintain inspection data as needed for evaluating and reporting.
oMaintain calibration system and conduct calibrations as needed.
oSupport all ISO 9001 and AS 9100 Quality objectives.
oPerform First Piece inspections
oPerform and approve First Article Inspections
oPerform root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
oBalloon drawings and generate First Piece and FAI documents
oPerform verification of regulatory and customer requirements
oAssist with improvement of departmental structure and employee trainings
oAssist with managing the company non-conformance databases
oInspect raw materials to find defects and enhance durability
oBrainstorm ideas to create solutions for identified problems
oAssist with problem solving activities utilizing industry standard methodologies
oMaintain quality standards, compliance, and customer satisfaction
Operational Maintenance:
oFollow existing policies and procedures, reporting any changes or improvements to Leadership.
oAnalyze data and review part history to evaluate the reliability of source information.
oVerify calibration and perform preventive maintenance on measuring equipment, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating repairs as needed.
Required attributes:
oA minimum of 3 years" experience working in a Quality Technician and CMM Programmer / Operator role within a manufacturing environment.
oExperience with First Article Inspections (FAI): Ability to perform first piece and first article inspections.
oHand Checks: Skilled in using hand tools for inspections (e.g., tables, measuring tools).
oAbility and experience completing general quality inspection tasks.
oExperience with aerospace standards and inspections.
oIn-depth knowledge of regulated industry standards, such as AS9100, ISO 9001
oExcellent drawing interpretation skills
oAbility to communicate effectively in writing and orally at all levels within the organization.
oFluency in written and spoken English
oOrganized, practical, logical in work approach
oPositive can-do attitude
oHigh School degree.

oA minimum of 5 years" experience working in a Quality Technician and CMM Programmer / Operator role within a manufacturing environment
oWorking knowledge of lean principles
oExperience of AS/ISO, NIST audits
oSix Sigma trained
