The opportunity

PHI is seeking a work-study student for the year to work 8-10 hours per week. The Public Humanities Initiative is a collection of activities and events on campus that promote the humanities in a range of participatory ways. Its primary focus is on the Humanities Lab, which is a gallery-style space in Robert Frost Hall, and the Humanities Festival, a big campus interactive event in April. The student in this position, over the course of the year, will:

--Meet weekly with PHI director (Professor Deborah Varat)

--Assist in installation of exhibitions in Lab (5 per year), writing wall texts, hanging works, etc.

--Act as point person for upcoming exhibitions and programs, as well as the scheduling of club meetings, classes, and other lab events

--Manage the Outlook calendar for the Lab, including posting the weekly schedule on the Lab door

--Help to publicize events in the Humanities Lab, including meeting with the campus social media team

--Help to plan opening receptions for gallery openings

--Attend as many openings and events in the Lab as possible

--Help to develop new ideas for how the space can best serve students

--Outreach to campus offices that might partner with PHI for events or programs

--Help director with early festival planning, including picking a date and reserving campus spaces

--Outreach to student clubs and organizations about participating in the festival

--Brainstorm ideas for festival decorations, music, food, prizes, etc. and make those arrangements in coordination with director

--Liaising with student graphics team on logo, poster, t-shirt, banner designs

--Working to promote the festival on campus

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Actively enrolled in classes for degree program at SNHU

  • Federal Work-Study as part of the financial aid package

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
