Engineering Manager
Overview The Engineering Manager plans and directs projects assigned to engineering function to ensure that project objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Fosters the development of the engineering team. Responsibilities 1. Reviews project proposals to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project. 2. Manages assigned projects from conception to end of life. 3. Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority. 4. Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget. 5. Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required. 6. Prepares project reports for management, client, or others. 7. Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems. 8. Provides input at customer site by suggesting alternate designs to reduce manufacturing cost. 9. Supports MEC sales department in serving our customers. 10. Trains and develops project engineers and improves systems used by engineering group. 11. Investigates and implements best practices for engineering function. 12. Leads high-performance engineering team by directing work, demonstrating best practices, and managing roadblocks. 13. Develops and initiates new technologies, process improvement initiatives and cost reduction programs. 14. Proposes business solutions related to product safety initiatives, annual strategic/situational planning, long-term planning, and supplier relationship agreements. Qualifications Job Skills Requirements * Strong knowledge of engineering, testing, and manufacturing processes. * Ability to effectively solve problems with diverse groups of people. * Strong interpersonal, written communication, and problem-solving skills to effectively interface with engineers, managers, and customers. * Well-developed leadership and planning skills as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. * Ability to develop and coordinate activities of others and to focus on major project resources to ensure assignments are completed accurately, on time, and on budget. Educational Requirements * Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Management or related field, or equivalent education and experience. Experience Requirements * Seven years of engineering experience. * Prior management or supervisory experience preferred. |
