Sr. Systems Engineer - 25-026 - San Diego, California

AUSGAR Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Systems Engineer to join our team of smart and innovative technical team members working in San Diego, California.

The objective of the program is to provide engineering, system security and assurance and risk management analyses to facilitate program accreditation in support of the portfolio of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems. The program system is a classified project in the prototype phase that identifies and disseminates time critical data using alternative methods for developing a common operational picture and decision aids.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support and maintain systems in a secure, mission-critical DoD environment.
  • Participate in a highly collaborative team within an Agile software development and system integration environment.
  • Perform Linux (Red Hat) system administration tasks, including patching, hardening (per STIGs) and troubleshooting.
  • Deploy, manage and troubleshoot containerized applications using technologies, such as Docker, Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Integrate and support container orchestration platforms and ensure container security and compliance.
  • Support and integrate virtualized environments (VMware) and automate provisioning/configuration.
  • Administer and manage PKI and related security mechanisms in DoD environments.
  • Manage and deploy cloud-based infrastructure and services (AWS) in support of system requirements.
  • Provide technical input to the DoD software acquisition process and participate in acquisition documentation reviews.
  • Author, review and update engineering documentation, including installation guides, deployment procedures and system designs.
  • Respond to and manage incident tickets, system alerts and service requests through tools like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Support shipboard software/system installations, testing and troubleshooting (Fleet and Navy test facilities).
  • Analyze, test and implement system patches, software updates and configuration changes in accordance with cybersecurity standards.
  • Travel to CONUS/OCONUS sites, including shipboard environments, for system deployment and support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful system integration and support lifecycle maintenance activities.
  • May be required to lead a small team of engineers and system administrators and advise the lead engineer on system architecture dependencies, integration impacts and project scheduling considerations.
  • Provide mentoring to junior engineers and lead small engineering task teams as needed.
Requirements

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • IAM/IAT Level II (i.e., CompTIA Security+ CE) certificate desired.
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited college/university.
  • 8+ years of experience in systems engineering roles within DoD environments.
  • Hands-on experience with:

o Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system administration and troubleshooting.

o VMware ESXi, vCenter and virtual infrastructure design/support.

o Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure management (EC2, IAM, S3, etc.).

o Container technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift and Helm.

o Infrastructure automation tools like Ansible and scripting (Python, Bash).

  • Experience with DoD PKI, DNS, LDAP and other core infrastructure services.
  • Familiarity with DISA STIGs, NIST standards and DoD cybersecurity compliance.
  • Ability to write and review engineering documentation for systems integration and deployment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for shipboard and shore-based deployments, up to 10% annually.

Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Certifications such as:

o CompTIA Linux+

o AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or equivalent

  • Prior experience supporting Navy IO systems and shipboard environments.
  • Experience with DISA processes and DoD acquisition lifecycle support (e.g., RMF, JCIDS).
  • Familiarity with container security, DevSecOps principles and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to working with DISA, NIST or STIG security guidelines and how to adhere to them.

Salary range: $140-160K

AUSGAR's salary range is dependent upon a variety of factors, which include experience, skills, education, certifications and geographical location. Our salary range includes a base salary and excellent benefits package as part of our total compensation.
